With the latest Circular Gap Report of Denmark, there is no doubt our Nordic markets have some structural challenges acheiving sustainable societies. 😳3 of the five nordic countries measure now below 4%. 💡 🙌We align within Nordic Circular Hotspot , as a community of commons, and community of practice, to investigate the structural barriers within and among nordic economies. 🌎 Our next partner meeting - will dwell into these insights, as the Circular Gap Reports, provide us with a common science based language to learn and communicate across our nordic borders - how we might together reduce the Nordic circular gaps. 🤓 And among partners, in a mindful, and accountable way elaborate how we - might accelerate the circular economy within the nordic region. 🌎 🌸Nordic region; The 12th largest economy globally. Save the date : GreenTech Forum Brussels, the new Tech & Sustainability event - 18-19 June 2024 According to the Digi4Climate study published in 2022 by Agoria, the net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions thanks to IT for Green could be 4.7 times greater than the total footprint of digital technologies themselves. Nevertheless, digital equipment generates ever growing environmental impacts and the digitisation of our societies results in a digital divide that must be addressed. In this context, GreenTech Forum Brussels is the new professional event dedicated to Tech and Sustainability. It will bring together in Brussels nearly 750 participants committed to Green IT and IT for Green. Placed under the patronage of Planet Tech'Care and co-organised by the Belgian Institute for Sustainable IT, Numeum, and SustAIn.brussels, GreenTech Forum Brussels is a unique event in Belgium. It will allow all technology and sustainability stakeholders to meet, discuss issues, share their expertise and draw up perspectives, to continue the deployment of GreenIT and IT for Green. Organized around a program of 20 conferences, 15 workshops and an exhibition and networking area, the event addresses all functions concerned by technology and sustainability within private and public organizations (IT, CSR, Purchasing, Innovation, Marketing and Communication, Legal, etc.). Inspired by this 3rd edition of the GreenTech Forum in Paris. Why? Some top-of-mind reasons to be cheerful: 🌿 France is a world leader when it comes to digital responsibility, as proven by pioneers like Frederic Bordage (founder of the #GreenIT association); legislation that urges the public sector to use 20% reconditioned hardware; or initiatives like LVMH’s, to train its entire French IT team in Green IT 🌿 Another recurring theme: Green IT, or reducing digital’s impact, is everyone’s business, not just IT departments’ (as it covers data centers, hardware and software, meaning all sorts of habits have to change) 🌿 There are virtuous business models, e.g. Commown, which leases repairable devices, as the key is maximising hardware’s lifespan to minimise its impact 🌿 The hardest question of all, but the most important: before adopting a new service, asking "do we really *need* this?" Often, we don’t, but give it a go anyway 🤦🏻♂️ Tl;dr: many seeds of hope despite the prevailing doom and gloom. Time to keep up and amplify the good fight!

This year was the third time I was at the GREEN AWARDS and the GREENTECH FESTIVAL – by now its feels like an integral part of my year. I am always enjoying this platform bringing together pioneers and innovative thinkers to celebrate sustainable technologies and green solutions. Particularly their international view leads to a selection of companies and start-ups, where even sustainability professionals can discover new solutions and get inspired. Highlights: 💬 Most valuable: Meeting old a new acquaintances and to catch-up. It was great seeing you again Steffen, Markus Richthammer, Christian Boog, Anja, Emil, Anna-Christina, Lary, Tobias, Nils…And to all new connections: I hope to see you again next year. 🚀 Most entertaining: The exchange between Hajo Schumacher and Ricarda Lang, where he confronted her with criticisms the Greens get (“politics for the elite”, „they ban everything“, environmental policy vs social policy“) They were a great duo. 💡 Most inspiring: All the people and solutions I learned about at the AWARDS and the CONFERENCE as well as all the trailblazers at the “START-UP LAND” 🔍 Most informative: The exhibition with all the amazing ideas out there. Really enjoyed the consumer engaging approach by Hansgrohe, showing products that are not yet on the market. Very impressed with the engaging booth of Stadler and all the information they put out there. The most in-depth conversation I shared was at Max Bögl, where we talked about sustainable concrete solutions. Room for improvement: I had high expectations for the panel on „How do we fight Greenwashing?“, which were not entirely met. The study results that were shown, weren’t contextualized (I was waiting to hear about methodology, participation, occupation etc. to understand whether the numbers are representative). Later (after I downloaded the study) I discovered that 172 people participated in the study. I wish this had been disclaimed on the panel, especially when talking about fact-based communication to avoid greenwashing. Also, there was no mention of the Green Claims regulation and its implications. As a game changer in sustainability communication I would have expected at least a brief mention of this. I wish I had had more time, because there was so much more to discover. ➡️ Let's keep the conversations going and shape the future together.
