Seasonal testing is always an important part of the commissioning process, especially when it comes to geothermal systems! At the new DEEP Western Headquarters located at Black Rock State Park, SES is working closely with the Automated Building Systems to monitor and adjust the geothermal system as warmer temperatures approach. Reviewing heat pump staging parameters, cooling controls and setting up trend data are all part of the seasonal testing process. #commissioning #buildingcommissioning #geothermal

A geothermal system comprises three main parts that facilitate heat transfer: 🌍 Geothermal Collectors and Probes: These are a series of connected pipes installed beneath the building. They circulate a fluid, known as a brine solution, to exchange heat between the building and the earth’s stable temperature. Geothermal collectors are installed horizontally & probes can be installed vertically, depending on space availability and heating/cooling load requirements. 💧 A Heat Distribution System: This system circulates water from the heat pump throughout the building, either through conventional ductwork or hydronic water pipes. 🔥 Geothermal Heat Pumps (GHPs): The heat pump is the core component that connects the geothermal ground pipes to the heat distribution system. Also known as ground source heat pumps (GSHPs), they transfer heat from the ground fluid and process it as heat into the building. #pumpedstorage for #hydropower in the United States was built primarily between 1960 and 1990; nearly half of the pumped storage capacity still in operation was built in the 1970s. No new pumped storage projects have come online in the United States since 2012. However, three new projects have been proposed, one in Utah and two in California, with a combined capacity of 2.6 GW. These projects would be a significant addition to the 22 GW of current pumped storage capacity. The project evaluated the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator's capability to treat Flue Gas Desulfurization (#FGD) purge water to Zero Liquid Discharge (#ZLD) using flue gas as the thermal energy source.
