UWMC - Cont. from yesterday's post as I know several of you are in this investment. I found the short report. Very, very weak. The short talks about UWMC losing millions of dollars without any reference to MSRs. Dead giveaway that these guys are hired guns and don't know the details behind this business. MSRs are an accounting charge based on actuarial estimates on how long the business will continue to service the loans on their books. If interest rates go up then the idea is less people will refiance and UWMC will service those loans longer ... accounting gain for the Q. The opposite happens and has happened over the last year as interest rates have dropped. The MSRs show that they won't have as much runway ... accounting loss for the quarter. This is basic stuff but the short report operated by a couple young guys didn't even acknowledge that fact. I'm not too concerned. They also triggered a lawsuit which is typical for these guys.

UWMC - Today's hot CPI number is obviously hurting the stock/sector. I was afraid that inflation is not under total control and today's print again showed that. Wage inflation takes a long time to get through the economy ... think about the union agreements that were signed in the winter. On top of that housing/shelter and insurance rates are modestly increasing. Net/net is mortgage rates are not likely to drop and may be here for a longer I'm afraid. So, I wait and get paid $.40/year in dividends until rates drop. No chance of a dividend cut from what the CEO has said multiple times. That's a 7% yield on the stock. On top of that, operationally, the company is performing very well and will take advantage of the huge demand when it comes and it certainly is a matter of when not if rates will drop. Also, there is news out about the company that wrote the short report on UWMC. Attached below is UWMC's account of the situation. It says the principle writer recently left Rocket after being there 5 years. Yesterday's bounce on the stock was largely due to their response. I think they're 100% right ... I'm not concerned about this and that creates the opportunity! Consult your financial advisor as I am not one before trading on any of my information.
