Happy New Year everyone! 🎉 Looking ahead to 2024, I’ve got one thing on my mind: Getting more nonprofits DAF Ready ✅ There are 3 things that any nonprofit should be able to do, for free, to set themselves up for success with Donor Advised Funds: 1️⃣ Not miss a DAF gift because of errors in DAF databases 2️⃣ Be comfortable having conversations about DAFs with donors 3️⃣ Track DAF gifts correctly I spent 2023 diving deep on DAFs & I became incredibly passionate about these huge challenges for nonprofits to get more of the $230 BILLION sitting in DAFs 👀 More money went into DAFs than private foundations last year & DAF distributions made up nearly 20% of philanthropy - & it’s been the fastest growing segment for years 📈 This isn’t a fringe topic, it needs to be a core competency of fundraising - so here’s what we’re planning to do about it this year 👇🏼 Problem 1: 43% of nonprofits have an address or name inconsistency at a major national DAF 🤯 Almost every DAF relies on checks in the mail to distribute. If they have errors in their address on file, an org would never even know the gifts they are losing in the mail 😩 If their name is wrong or missing, you’ll never know which donors couldn’t even find your org to begin with 😤 We’ve run 1,000s of tests on nonprofits big and small, new and old, & you’d be amazed how many troubling discrepancies there are 🙈 So we built a screener called My DAF Status to identify these errors so you can get them fixed ASAP 🙌🏼 Problem 2: 42% of fundraisers saying know how to ask about DAF gifts is their biggest hurdle to DAF fundraising 🥴 I think a big reason for this is because there is very little high quality educational content around DAFs specifically made for DAF fundraisers, making the topic inaccessible to most 🧗🏼♀️ So we’re launching a full curriculum called DAF Academy, including monthly webinars drawing on expertise & insights from all stakeholders in the DAF ecosystem 👩🏽🏫 Problem 3: There are no standards around the tracking & data practices related to DAF gifts 🤷🏼♀️ As we’ve onboarded thousands of nonprofits to Chariot, we’ve learned that they way nonprofits account for DAF gifts is really all over the place 🚧 In fact, many organizations have never specifically track DAF gifts at all! 🕳️ That’s why we’re working on a benchmark study across nonprofit organizations to better understand the real on-the-ground experience with DAFs and establish standards that any nonprofit can leverage for their own data practices 🏆 As we’re launching these initiatives in the coming days and weeks, I’d appreciate everyone’s help making sure these free resources are getting to as many organizations as possible 🗣️ If you have an audience of nonprofit folks that you’d like to be better informed on DAFs, I’m always happy to join webinars, podcasts or blogs to share all the insights we’re getting 👋🏼 Here's to getting DAF Ready in 2024! 💪🏾 #nonprofit #philanthropy #fundraising

The latest report from the Blackbaud Institute, The Resilient Nonprofit, finds that fundraisers are seeing growing revenues and expect continued increases next year. The report also finds that the biggest growth in revenue is coming from midlevel and new donors.
