How great is it that the City of New York recognise the negative impact textiles have on the environment and our climate?! 🚀 They also know that they are the largest purchaser of textiles in New York, so they set up the NYC task force to come up with guidelines and recommendations for future purchasing and disposal of textiles. 🤘 So proud to see our very own Thomasine Dolan Dow as a key part of the NYC Task Force. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting Laura Young, also known as 'Less Waste Laura', at our The Coffee Bar & Kart in Prestwick. If you don't know Laura yet, I highly recommend getting to know her. You may have even seen her on The Sunday Show yesterday morning on BBC. Laura is truly a 'Voice with Value' and an inspiration within the Scottish community. She passionately discusses all the relevant hot topics that support our environment. Laura and I first met a couple of years ago when I introduced her to sustainable fashion rental options with Hirestreet. The best part was that Hirestreet uses ACS (Advanced Clothing Solutions), a circular fashion hub based in Glasgow. We had the fortunate chance to style Laura for some exciting events in Scotland. However, this weekend, our conversation shifted to a completely different area of sustainability: coffee! As you know, Stuart Pell and I own independent coffee bars in Ayrshire, and we are always looking for ways to be 'more sustainable' and 'circular'. Last month, we launched an exciting new product: 'Pumpkin Spiced Coffee Scrub'. This scrub is made from coffee grounds that are typically discarded every day. Coffee has many benefits, and we want to ensure these grounds are used to their full potential. To bring this idea to life, we collaborated with 'White Rabbit Skincare', a local Kilmarnock company, to create a skincare product using our coffee grounds. This is a perfect example of a circular product. It's ultimately about meeting people who align with your values. Laura embodies these values, and our discussions inspire and drive our commitment to sustainability.
