What's the buzz in our #BASFHubBerlin community? Well, there's innovation in the air! Last week Thursday we kicked off our Berlin#146 - Innovate for(a)ward event! As innovators, dreamers and changemakers we launched a new format and brought our fantastic energy to life: A space to innovate, experiment and collaborate in our BASF Hub Berlin. We as Core Team (Franziska Freese Sebastian Wenzel Toon De Backer Daniela Behrendt Leonie Geers Rebekka Müller) together with Markus Bold, Managing Director of CHEMOVATOR GmbH, kicked off the event with a motivational and inspiring opening, followed by an amazing keynote by Tanja Bogumil, serial entrepreneur and food innovator. Tanja and Markus encouraged us to take ownership, embrace risk and apply the underlying principles of entrepreneurship. It's about empowering each other while improving collaboration within our teams. Finally, we invited our guests to discuss in a panel with Stefanie Saeger Lydia Wartewig Mark P. Rasch Fabio Cavallaro on how to cultivate an innovation mindset in a corporate world, how to foster innovation in our daily work and how to learn from each other. For me, it was a powerful reminder that innovation isn't just an innate talent; it's a skill that can be learned and nurtured by being #BetterTogether. At BASF Hub Berlin, we will continue to explore new ideas and push boundaries. Recently, PortXL participated in the Maritime Innovation Dinner – and so did two members of our supervisory board: Femke Brenninkmeijer, who opened the dinner together with Peter Goedvolk, and Vivienne de Leeuw, who gave a keynote speech on transitions and entrepreneurship in the port region. Innovation is, of course, an ongoing topic and one that is near to our hearts, as we aim to bring as many maritime start-ups and scale-ups into the ecosystem to further both (product) innovations and the method of open innovation. The event, attended by Christel Pullens and Linda Treuman, was also useful to catch up with some of our partners, such as Damen, City of Rotterdam (Hanneke Bruinsma) and Port of Rotterdam. A good moment to talk about challenges – more specifically, challenges for which a collaboration with relevant start-ups and scale-ups can be part of the solution.   Indeed, every year our partners come up with challenges. These topics give us guidance when scouting for participants (worldwide) who will make up the new 2024 cohort of our accelerator programme, making it directly relevant for maritime companies looking towards innovation as a way of tackling challenges.    Thanks to Maritime Delta and the Rotterdam Maritime Board for organising this event at the premises of Royal Roos BV en VSTEP Simulation, where Dirk Koppenol led a panel discussion with Josefien Groot, Karin Govaert, and Marco Hoogendoorn about ‘mature markets with immature innovations’.    Tip: reach out and connect with these interesting people! #SCIENCEinnovates As a prelude to SCIENCE Innovation Summit on June 6, I will be spotlighting our distinguished speakers using this hashtag. First up is Christian Vintergaard, who has served as CEO of Fonden for Entreprenørskab (Foundation for Entrepreneurship) since 2010. Additionally, from 2018 to 2023, he held the position of CEO for the Danish Technology Pact. When asked about his key messages for the SCIENCE Innovation Summit, Christian answers: “First and foremost, I look forward to participating and sharing my vision on how we can promote more startups through increased innovation among students and researchers. In my opinion, we should not perceive research and education as opposites to commercial exploitation, but rather as integrated elements with the potential to create cohesive solutions.” We look very much forward to Christian sharing insights drawn from his extensive experience in entrepreneurship, new technology, business strategy, economic growth, corporate governance, policy, and more.
