#SharkTank #ProductManagement #Sustainability #IoT Nominated as a Shark Tank Finalist - April 2024 A couple of weeks ago, I saw an email asking for staff members to compete in a new Global Shark Tank-style event where we have to present new ideas, concepts and pitches to several Judges. The first round would be to document our ideas and send them through to the Sustainability Green Team for assessment. After the submission date has passed, only four entries will be chosen to compete in the final round at the global summit. For the first round, I used my own experience in product management, concept design, and technology entrepreneurship to work on IoT / ML / AI, Green Technology, Sustainability Management, Auto-generated functions and Eco-power modes. I tested out my concept, documented everything and sent it through. This week, I received an email on Wednesday 17th April at 23:30 saying my entry had been selected as part of the four finalists and we would like you to pitch your idea to the Global Sustainability Summit next week 25th April. When I saw the other finalists, I realized I was the only one participating solo and from the UK. The others were all team entries and with intriguing concepts. Of course, I wasn't worried, just knew I had to up my game as they say. The purpose of this post is, sometimes it is what you know with experience, confidence, mindset and practice that can set you apart from the competition. You have to try and put yourself forward, just got for it. I didn't think I would be in the final, but I knew I had a solid ground to stand on, with a determined attitude and drive. The future is software..... Or is it hardware, or surely it must be both? 🤔 We can't reach our decarbonisation goals through clean-technologies without both - two peas in a pod. Yes physical hardware is the backbone, getting the heavy lifting done, it is absolutely essential, of course we can't do it all with software. But if you are a startup or innovator - try pitching your hardware technology for investment, without idenitfying how it will: 💡 without integrating with adjacent systems 💡 without digital performance optimisation 💡 without incorporating IoT sensors 💡 without using AI and LLM for predictive maintence 💡 without being able to dashboard live data to operators, owners and insurers That would be a tricky pitch! We need both working together, we need ongoing innovation in both areas, which often happens independently, with one eye on getting back together later - its complicated 🤷♂️ 👀 I attended two very interesting events last week - Oceanology International at Excel, London, #oi24 and #climatesolutions24 curated by Oxfordshire Greentech Some fantastic innovations in software and hardware, and great to learn more and see the founders in action via the pitches at Oxford. Software can be seen as a relatively easy win for founders and investors - its a quick development cycle in comparison to hardware. But the same questions remain beyond Technology Readiness - Commercial Readiness, Market Readiness, Investment Readiness? .....and a whole host of other aspects to consider before you reach market adoption.
