As the world continues to digitalise, digital games are becoming an increasingly integral part of daily life, particularly for younger generations. It is therefore crucial to ensure that players are exposed to high-quality screen time and content. The Danish digital games industry is actively contributing to this effort by shifting the focus from pure entertainment to the creative integration of social and environmental factors, ensuring that digital interactions are enriching rather than harmful.
Initiatives like the newly launched Nimbi GameLab, Europe’s first institute dedicated to ethical game development, exemplify this commitment. By prioritising creativity, ethics, and inclusivity, Denmark is setting a new standard for what digital games can achieve - promoting well-being and preventing unhealthy exposure, especially among children.
Denmark’s thriving creative sector is built on strong values and a shared vision for positive change. When the industry comes together, it has the power to drive agendas, shape global conversations, and inspire players to think creatively about solving real-world issues. 28 companies are currently united at Gamescom 2024, displaying creativity and innovation at the ‘Denmark booth’, aiming to drive positive social and environmental change through digital games with a commitment to making a difference. With a Danish games industry export in 2022 for 349 million euro and only increasing in recent years the potential for positive influence will only grow on a global scale.
