I am almost at a loss of words to describe this fantastic video- as a member of the Petronas family I can’t help but be awash with pride and excitement. Happy as I am, this feeling is also tempered by sadness that a number of pioneers and mentors of mine are no longer with us- to see what this unique institution has achieved, and contributed to the nation since its birth. The overarching feeling I’m experiencing today is an overwhelming sense of duty: to protect the proud legacy built by the many who came before me. The scale of the challenge is nothing short of colossal. To merely describe it as “intimidating” for industries, societies and individuals at large would be a gross understatement. The sooner we accept that what needs to be done can only be achieved together, the better. Kudos to WBCSD and to the authors of this piece.

I’m ecstatic for this cadre of visibly enthusiastic talents- and sincerely trust that Toto & Co will make this a valuable and rewarding experience. The one thing that excites me even more? Let’s get this F1 season going already!

The countdown begins once again for us at PETRONAS: to deliver what we hope to be an even more meaningful and inclusive event than the inaugural edition which was convened last year. At PETRONAS, we are committed to advance solutions for what is arguably one of Asia’s most daunting challenges: delivering a just and responsible transition, while preserving energy security which is inseparable from the region’s pursuit of economic development. Watch this space!

The sooner we all realise that the daunting challenge of decarbonisation also comes with a wealth of opportunities, the faster we will act- and the quicker the planet will benefit. I’ll be the first to recognise this is will be an arduous journey, and improvements will be delivered over time: but we must all make a start. I’m extremely excited and proud that the Petronas Downstream team -led by my colleague Sazali Hamzah- have taken a number of bold steps to transition. Well, as I write this we’re days away from what I hope will become a flagship event for energy players, policymakers, partners and financial institutions who are working to chart sustainable pathways in Asia. To say I’m nervous would be a massive understatement, but even more than nervousness I do feel an growing sense of excitement and promise. At #EnergyAsia we hope to have the difficult but necessary conversations so greatly needed by a region pursuing economic development- and turn insights into action. Immensely proud of the team at UTP- but there’s no time to rest on our laurels, because continuous improvement is now the name of the game.

I suspect this will be an immensely interesting conversation in #EnergyAsia. #Petronas and our thought partners #S&P are assembling industry players and financial institutions for dialogues which will unpack the issue of financing a just and responsible energy transition.

No energy transition will be realised without an accompanying skills transition- looking forward to having this conversation happen at #EnergyAsia2023
