Pleased to report I’ve had a strong start at Praetura, welcoming 4 new customers across over £13m worth of new facilities, in the last week alone. To deliver on these facilities I’ve had a huge amount of internal support from both operations, senior management and the wider sales team – for which I’m very grateful. It’s a highly cohesive team of people and we’ve been able to deliver some sizeable facilities in time frames that, ultimately, would not have been achievable on the high street. I’ll share the individual tombstones shortly and its noteworthy that our full suite of ABL products came to the fore on one of the new facilities, with the ability to offer a cash flow loan, in addition to a CID line, paramount to ensuring one of our new clients had the correct levels of support and liquidity moving forward. I’ve been in situ for 6 months now and we are completing some really exciting and dynamic lends. If somebody asked me to describe Praetura it’s a really good blend of ‘old meets new’. The old in terms of the fundamentals of getting under the skin of business at an early stage, understanding its individual requirements and senior risk involvement, and support, from the first meeting onwards. The new is the diversity of product range, technology, agility/speed of decision making and ability to support the M&A market (to name just a few). Praetura are at the forefront of alternative lender marketspace and will play a crucial role in ensuring SME’s have sufficient liquidity vs a highly challenging economic backdrop. The business slice, which offers an alternative to credit cards and was founded by Rajan Bajaj, has announced that Stride Ventures has contributed $9 million in debt capital. Slice plans to use this cash to increase its customer base and range of products. According to the regulatory filing with the Registrar of Companies, the firm has approved a special resolution to allot 7,500 non-convertible debentures at an issue price of Rs 1,00,000 per share in order to raise Rs 75 crore, or $9 million. The company has issued non-convertible bonds with an annual interest rate of 14.25%. The allocation determined a tenure of 15 months. This debt round might reach up to $35 million, or Rs 300 crore, according to a different regulatory filing. In an effort to increase their financial accessibility, Slice and North East Small Finance Bank (NESFB) announced their merger last month. For roughly $3.42 million, Slice has purchased a 5% share in the bank with its headquarters in Guwahati in March. This gave the small financing bank an approximate value of $68.4 million. In November 2021, Slice's Series C round valued the company at over $1.5 billion, with $340 million raised thus far. Although the company has not yet released its FY23 financial statements, Entrackr's sources indicate that its sales increased by nearly three times to approximately Rs 870 crore in FY23. While slice losses increased 2.52X to Rs 253.67 crore in FY22, operating revenue increased 4.18X to Rs 283.08 crore from Rs 67.7 crore in FY21. Sitara (SEWA Grih Rin Limited), a company dedicated to providing affordable housing finance, has announced a significant milestone in its growth journey. It has finalized an agreement with Arpwood Partners Fund I LLP (Arpwood Partners) and existing shareholders to raise equity capital amounting to Rs 705 crore. Under this agreement, Arpwood Partners will inject Rs 680 crore into Sitara, acquiring a majority stake in the company. This infusion of funds is geared towards fueling Sitara's expansion and supporting its mission of providing accessible housing finance solutions. The agreement is pending approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Sitara's existing investors, including notable names such as Abler Nordic, Oikocredit, RNT Associates (backed by Ratan Tata), HDFC Bank, HDFC Life Insurance, Women’s World Banking Asset Management, and Omidyar Network India, will continue their investment alongside Arpwood Partners. Established in 2015, Sitara has been steadfast in its commitment to offering affordable housing finance to marginalized urban and peri-urban households. With a special focus on empowering women in the informal sector to become property owners, Sitara operates through a network of 75 branches across nine states, serving regions such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Haryana. The company boasts an impressive Assets Under Management (AUM) of approximately Rs 1,200 crore and serves over 25,000 customers. #FundingWithYS 💰 Vivifi India said it has raised $74 million in debt and equity funding from an unnamed "large US-based investor". Key highlights ✨ - The company said it will use the funding to expand its workforce to over 2,000 employees in the next 12-18 months, from its existing 800, as well as set up offices across tier II and tier III cities, especially in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. - Vivifi did not name the investor, but said the deal was a strategic alliance and that the investor has a "large portfolio of investments in specialty/alternative finance" in the US. Vivifi, founded in 2016, is an #NBFC company that provides credit access to underserved communities in India via small loans. The company claims it has disbursed Rs 1,000 crore to more than five lakh customers in the past year, and aims to do loans worth Rs 3,000 crore this year. In MMR they are much into the underserved markets into the rural pockets of Satellite towns like Shahapur, Murbad, Wada, Palghar, etc. We get to explore these markets while evaluating the collaterals here, which may look as simple as anyone's native house but quite complex to evaluate. While evaluating the properties in cities and town vetting various approvals and permission is an expertise but the properties here is a different experience and a satisfaction at times when you are reaching out to that level where the need is micro in terms of volume but mega in terms of requirement.

Competition Commission of India Approves Strategic Acquisition The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the proposed acquisition of certain shareholdings in Svatantra Microfin Private Limited (SMPL) and certain rights in Svatantra Micro Housing Finance Corporation Limited (SMHFCL) by Violicina Limited as of May 21, 2024. Violicina Limited, a special purpose vehicle incorporated in Cyprus, has no operations in India. SMPL, the ultimate holding company of the SMPL group, operates as a registered Non-Deposit Taking Systemically Important NBFC-MFI (Middle Layer), providing microfinance and personal loans in rural and semi-urban areas through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Chaitanya India Fin Credit Private Limited (CIFCPL). SMHFCL, another arm of the Svatantra group, operates as a registered Non-Deposit taking housing finance company NBFC-HFC (Middle Layer). It is dedicated to providing secured housing loans to financially excluded rural and urban low-income families, along with loans to individuals against property and to corporates/institutions for construction and real estate projects. The proposed combination involves Violicina acquiring more than 25% shareholding in SMPL via a combination of primary subscription and secondary purchase, marking a significant strategic investment in the microfinance and housing finance sectors. Indiabulls Housing Finance repays Rs 2,232 cr, clears all $3-billion ECBs Indiabulls Housing Finance has successfully repaid ₹2,232 crore of external commercial borrowings (ECBs) raised in 2018 from top global banks, marking the end of a deleveraging process that began after the collapse of IL&FS in 2018. With the deleveraging process now complete, the company is shifting its focus to growth, with excess collections of about ₹1,200 crore to ₹1,600 crore a quarter now available for asset growth. Indiabulls Housing Finance aims to double disbursals to ₹1,200 crore per month by the end of this financial year, with a focus on affordable and green housing.
