An Israeli company has developed a nanomaterial-based industrial additives that allow for achieving lightweight and sustainable materials — making it an ideal component for enhancing the properties of plastics used in planes, trains, and yes even automobiles. The proprietary additives developed by Petah Tikva-based Nemo Nanomaterials can be mass produced in order to supplement a large range of parts. The additives are based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT). VP Business Development Jonathan Antebi says he and co-founder and CEO Alexander Zinigrad began to develop the CNTs-based additives after realizing the potential of existing nanomaterial to enhance various kinds of plastics and other industrial material. “We established Nemo to take the promise of nanocarbons and bring it into industrial reality,” Antebi tells NoCamels. “A team of experts – of engineering, mechanical plastics, chemistry – enabled us to take an idea and convert it into actual up-and-running technology,” he says. #nanomaterials #nanocarbons #industrialadditives #additives #israelinnovation #israelitech #plastics

【Triboelectric Nanogenerators Using Recycled Disposable Medical Masks for Water Wave Energy Harvesting】 Advanced Functional Materials ( IF 18.5 ) Pub Date : 2024-08-02 , DOI: 10.1002/adfm.202409422 In the current daily life of people, the usage for disposable medical masks (DMMs) continues to be high. Discarded DMMs eventually become plastic pollution, threatening the marine environment seriously. At present, the common plastic recycling methods are extensive and not completely applicable for DMM recycling. In this work, according to the special structural and material characteristics of DMMs, a simple and effective recycling solution is proposed based on triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). First, a pulsed electric field system is designed and fabricated to treat the recycled films. The sterilizing rate reaches 91.8%, and the film surface potential is enhanced at the same time. Then, the feasibility of the treated films to be applied as the friction layers of TENGs is verified. Moreover, the recycled films are upgraded by chemical and physical methods, improving the output current of the basic TENG by 3.28 times. Finally, a complete TENG device is constructed to harvest water wave energy, 93.75% of which is made from recycled DMM materials. Under water waves, the power density of 18.22 W m−3 is achieved. New Perspective on Anode-Free All-Solid-State Batteries with Shirley Meng from University of Chicago; Argonne National Laboratory. Anode-free strategy is gaining more interest in recent years, due to its manufacturing simplicity and potential for high-energy-density batteries without safety compromise. However, the design constraints for anode-free batteries have been difficult to overcome. In this talk, I will give an update on our efforts to enable anode-free lithium-metal and anode-free sodium-metal batteries.
