I know in our culture and economy, competition is valued really high: — Who is the competition? — What’s your competition doing? — How much did your competition bring in last year? And my favorite: —We have to CRUSH the competition. Now, I can admit that I sometimes have a problem with envy. However, I’ve never understood wanting to see someone else fail so that I might succeed. I’ve never wanted something so much that I wanted to see someone else’s dreams die. How would we teach that to our children: —if you want to swing higher, cut the chain of your sister’s swing —if you want to beat him at basketball, sweep his legs when he jumps NO—there’s a better way. There is enough room for everyone. When we want the best for our community, there’s no room for envy or cutthroat competition. There is enough room for all of us—there has to be.
