If you could scream into the void about what's wrong in cybersecurity, what would you scream? What is your biggest complaint? What is the business doing wrong? What are WE doing wrong?
Dani Woolf and I met with a dozen cyber leaders to ask them those very questions on this week's episode of The Cyber Ranch Podcast, LIVE! at CISO XC executive conference in DFW.
Dani is host of the Audience 1st podcast, and was brilliant to work with! We plan to work together more in the future for sure.
I'm not tagging any guests on this one because we kept it anonymous on purpose so folks could really rant.
Give it a listen, but more importantly, share your gripes/grumps/beefs/complaints below. This is that rare moment when I'm totally willing to let the thread go completely negative!

Thanks to Cecil Pineda Randy PottsJaimin ShahBrandon Nichols for giving Dani and I a place to record this show. I think it came out really, really well. Thanks to Richard Salim for brilliant editing on this one!
WARNING: Some naughty language in this one.

While I agree with many of the others here about "the basics", I feel it is important to understand that "the basics" are not static. They have been changing over the years, and will continue to change. (i.e 8 character passwords are now 16+, Is passwordless the next "basic"? MFA Requirements, SIEM/MDR/XDR, etc). What was "basic" yesterday is not "basic" today, and what is "basic" today will not be in the future.
But with that being said. My two biggest issues are:
1- Cybersecurity is not a technical problem. Business owners and leaders need to stop looking at cybersecurity as it should belong in the server room. Cybersecurity is managing business risk, and its place is in the boardroom.
2- Cybersecurity is not a cost center. When executed correctly, it is a profit center.
Great conversation Allan Alford

UnHacked Episode 11 just dropped! This time we get a bit personal and share experiences where we've been directly involved in helping someone recover from a breach. As the podcast title suggests, once you've been hit, full recovery is almost impossible. You can never truly get UnHacked! That's why it's so important to prevent it from ever happening. Or, as we discuss this week: "Make It Happen To Somebody Else"
