Just coming down from the adrenaline that powered me through last week's Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. What a whirlwind! I loved seeing how sports was a central theme of the festival, both in terms of the discussions and panels over the course of the week as well as being represented in so much of the work on display. Just a few of the personal highlights: 💃 Connecting with incredible women at the The Female Quotient Equality Lounge to discuss how our brands are authentically connecting with audiences and driving conversations globally alongside Kellyn Smith Kenny, Chief Marketing and Growth Officer, AT&T , Inc., Maggie Schmerin, Chief Advertising Officer, United Airlines, Jess Spaulding, Chief Marketing Officer, PepsiCo Foods Canada, and Heather Hopkins Freeland, Chief Brand Officer, Adobe. 🏥 Highlighting the importance of mental health and the work we’ve been doing with the Ad Council on the cross league initiative in support of the "Love, Your Mind" campaign to change the narrative around one of the most important issues today at Stagwell Sport Beach with Heidi Arthur, Chief Campaign Development Officer, the Ad Council, Tim Ellis CMO, National Football League (NFL), Brandon Marshall , Senior Director of Retention & Brand, (USTA) United States Tennis Association. 🌎 Discussing how we tailor our campaigns for a global audience and tap into technology and innovation to reach fans globally at Influential Beach presented by Brand Innovators with Shachar Scott, VP Marketing Reality Labs, Meta and Chris Detert, CCO, Influential.  ⭐ Spending time at the IPG Mediabrands Best of Brands Showcase for an in-depth look at the work rising to the top. Partnerships with sports in a differentiated manner, tapping into in-depth insights and translating to creativity, applying AI for utility and creating value for good were among some of the key takeways. 🏅 Being honored as one of Forbes’ World Most Influential CMOs and winning the first-ever TikTok Influential Sheesh Award, both of which is a reflection of the incredible work across the entire marketing organization and league-wide efforts. 💛 Connecting with and supporting members of the various communities that helped make the Cannes world feel like a smaller place. I'm excited to share our National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals campaign, "The Toast" 🍾 , which debuted in yesterday’s Game 7s. The Conference Finals are set and we are looking ahead to the pinnacle of the NBA season. And in a season that introduced a new tournament, saw the rise of young superstars take on their heroes, and was as wide open as any season in recent memory, it felt fitting to bid the season adieu with a toast. In our latest film, NBA Legend and three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade hosts an elegant gala, inviting one and all to raise a glass to the NBA Finals. The ads feature stars from sports, entertainment and music, including Ray Allen, Mike Breen, Kamilla Cardoso, Ken Jeong, Magic Johnson, Jimmy Kimmel, Queen Latifah, Angel Reese and Isiah Thomas, all gathered to toast to ‘the season that was and the champions to be’. The campaign will be translated in 14 languages and you can catch it running in 214 countries and territories. So proud of this incredible work with input from across the entire ⭐ marketing team and developed in collaboration with Translation and beautifully directed by dave laden. Look out for Finals promotion coming alive globally with year two of the Larry O’ Brien trophy tour, NBA House activations in Canada and Brazil, watch parties across all our regions, custom content with celebs and local creators, fan sweepstakes and more! Conference Finals begin on Tuesday, May 21 with an east matchup between the Bosting Celtics and Indiana Pacers at 8 p.m. on ESPN. On Wednesday, May 22 the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves will face off in the west at 8:30 p.m. on TNT. Truly grateful to have found such an inspirational community with Gold House. It’s always more fun to talk shop when it’s with some of my favorite people and on one of my favorite topics, live event marketing! Thanks to Variety for getting this gang together last week. 🌟 I enjoyed the discussion and the opportunity to share how events and experiential marketing are essential components of the NBA’s multi-platform strategy to connect with our fans, especially with Gen Z and Alpha.  About half of our fanbase is age 35 or younger and we know they place a premium on communal experiences, optionality and personalization. Our ability to connect with fans at an early age through events tailored for these audiences, such as NBA Con and NBA Crossover, helps us deepen engagement and fuel fandom.  The league-wide focus on creating memorable experiences, events and community building pays off as basketball continues to be the #1 youth participation team sport in the US AND almost a third of Gen Alpha are playing 🏀 . Feeling energized and inspired coming out of POSSIBLE Miami 2024. The highlight was connecting with so many of my favorite people in this industry, even if briefly, and meeting even more new faces. I also had a great time chatting with Jay Williams and Chris Detert about how we’re driving global growth for the NBA sitting at the intersection of sports, culture and entertainment. We discussed the power of the NBA as a lifestyle brand, the unrivaled reach of our social and digital platforms and how we show up in culture to meet our fans where they are. What an incredible NBA All-Star weekend! The level of collaboration and coordination across the league is truly awe-inspiring. Proud of the marketing team and our amazing partners for bringing all our Indy initiatives to life, from the basketball court at the airport to city-wide promotions, to executing one of the largest drone shows in the U.S. and bringing together over 100 global creators at NBA House. Plus, the NBA ID Studio at Crossover was a fan favorite 😀 . Personally, the Stephen vs. Sabrina 3-Point Challenge was a highlight.
