This time, one of our B1 Shift Engineers at our Gatwick line station has answered a few questions. Having been with Storm Aviation for over 8 years, their role as a B1 Shift Engineer involves managing shifts, planning manpower, and addressing any arising issues, while also providing coverage on aircraft when necessary. As an engineer, they appreciate working for Storm due to the diversity of aircraft types, especially at Gatwick where they handle a wide range of aircraft, that no day is ever the same. It is very disheartening as well as unbelievable how all these aviation companies in these big countries want qualified personnel to come to work for them when their aren't much of any to work with. Who were there have moved on and you can't develop skill technicians out of thin air. An aircraft technician takes pride in his skills which has been developed over years of wanting to do what has to be done get you safely to where you are going. It takes 18 months of schooling just to get them to a green level. Each individual still have to gain knowledge of each type of Aircraft, which also will take time. The only how these young people can be better at what they have done the ground work before entering any sort of classroom. Which would mean they can transition into the role evolving as they work along side senior staff. This job isn't meant for everyone. Is it that difficult for a technician to get sponsorship from a company like any pilot can? Because the last time I checked the airplanes still need to be maintained just like they need someone to fly them. Respect for the position as an Aircraft Technician must be shown as they are the ones keep you flying all over the world under the safest of conditions.

I have always been fascinated by the world of offshore work and wondered how people got into it. After a chance meeting with someone, I realized that there were many job opportunities available. Intrigued, I decided to become an offshore mechanic, a role I pursued for six years. During that time, my interest in remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) grew, but unfortunately, finances became an obstacle when it came to enrolling in a course to learn more about them. Determined to pursue my passion, I made the decision to travel to Australia and work as a fruit picker to save up for the course. Finally, in December 2023, I successfully completed the journey I had set out on. Despite my accomplishments, I faced difficulty in finding employment in the ROV industry. Countless CVs were sent, but there was little to no response from companies and agencies. Eventually, I was given a chance by ROVOP and Archer Offshore for job in sarawak water, XLX Triton. But I continued to face rejection due to the clients' preference for candidates with extensive flying experience of 150+ hours. Naturally, this was disheartening and frustrating. Now, I have a question for professionals who are experienced in the world of ROVs: how can beginners accumulate flying hours? Additionally, is there any advice on how to navigate the challenging application process in order to gain experience and flying hours more easily? Now, I have returned to my previous role as an offshore mechanic with a low wage. no chance anymore in rov job. But i want to wish good luck to all beginners out there. If the path becomes too difficult, remember that there are countless individuals who have experienced similar struggles in the world of ROVs. Let's strive for peace and unity. Cheers
