I finished listening to the audiobook of 'Write a Book in 2 hours' yesterday (I listened at 1.2x speed, so it didn't take long!). My main takeaways: - I didn't value the book, mainly because the author kept telling me how he churns books out in no time at all... which made it feel 'throwaway' - The factory line process clearly works for some book producers, but I kept thinking of all the readers who highly value their books and want to know that more thought and love has gone into what they're reading - Ironically for such a short book, it felt like there was a lot of filler content. Because I knew the author's goal was to write a book as quickly as possible, I kept thinking that sections were rushed or padded out with speed in mind And of course it made me reflect on how we present our recruitment services. Some recruiters proudly talk about the vast number of candidates they've placed, in much the same way the 'Write a Book' author values quantity over quality. And there are absolutely some clients who measure speed and quantity over everything else. But in my eyes, the real value of a great recruitment consultant is in the quality not the quantity. The recruiters I work with spend more time, not less, acting as an expert advisor to their clients. They spend more time with their candidates, rather than rattling through basic screening and flinging CVs as quickly as they can. And because of this, they are much more likely create transformative value for their clients by finding them the very best talent to deliver their objectives. I'm sure some businesses are looking for a quick fix, but when your objective is worth millions of pounds you want an expert to spend quality time in helping you achieve it.
