The most underrated role on Go-To-Market teams: Revenue Operations A great Rev Ops leader gives your revenue team leverage. I waited too long to hire for this role, instead choosing to do the job off the side of my desk. I was being lazy. I didn’t fully understand what “sales operations” or “revenue operations” meant. I hadn’t taken the time to sit down and write out the job description. But once I found the right person, it was like the world opened before my eyes. Our Rev Ops leader was my partner in running the revenue team. They were involved at the strategic level and at the tactical level. They knew where all the bodies were buried. So what does Rev Ops do? I’ll do my best to list some of the key responsibilities: - build the revenue model - weekly sales forecast - select, implement, and maintain the tech stack (CRM, sales engagement tools, etc) - design sales compensation plan - run the sales compensation report monthly - own the TAM data in the CRM (super important!!) - analyze sales team performance - manage lead distribution The list goes on. Great post by Corey Litwin of The Revenue Accelerator. What gets me most excited about #RevOps is its laser focus on revenue and retention - performance metrics that REALLY matter, which are directly tied to pre- and post-sales customer engagement and success. Most of my career I've focused on business process improvement and customer experience improvement, which are integral to RevOps but often get applied much more broadly, often to soft or hard-to-quantify business benefits. To add to Corey's advice to hire a RevOps leader before a Sales leader, I'd also advise business leaders to have their business process and CX improvement teams prioritize initiatives that have a direct impact on revenue and retention, i.e., collaborate on RevOps initiatives, before or instead of working on other competing initiatives that don't directly impact revenue and retention. #revenue #retention #revenueoperations #customerexperience

I am noticing a common dilemma among companies - getting caught between demand generation and a product-led motion. I'm hiring for a GTM lead / business development role for tldraw. We've had strong inbound sales on our SDK but still have a long way to go in terms of pricing / positioning and understanding our market. What's the right profile though? (DMs open too). Specifically, I'm looking for someone to help me design tldraw's go to market strategy based on what we've learned so far, help us execute on it (sales, marketing, and team), and then see it through multiple iterations. I've seen a huge range of backgrounds that for this early stage GTM hire. Coming out of sales seems obvious but might lack the strategic side; consulting would be a good place for strategy but maybe not execution and iteration? Marketing or growth both feel early. I'm not seeing a lot of repeat roles here, ie "early GTM expert" profiles. I have seen plenty of early stage GTM folks go into advising though, which makes me think that it's enough of a challenge to either cash out with a winner or head off back to something more predictable. There's also the question of product / market experience. Selling SDK licenses to CTOs is different from selling B2B SaaS, developer tools have their own nuances and success patterns. But does that really matter? Would the right person just learn the market? Actually, does specific experience matter at all here? Would any cracked McKinsey dropout with 8/10 yapping and 9/10 tapping just take our nascent PMF and run with it? Final complication comes from location. I'm based in London, as is the whole product and development team. Given that there are so many open questions about strategy, my tendency is to hire here, but most of our sales / industry is in the US. East coast? or stick to UK? Any thoughts greatly appreciated, DMs open if you have anyone in your network who fits the profile (even if they're not available, would help my search to see more people)
