Is franchising still in vogue? 🤔 Are we sure we understand what it really entails? I have seen only a few serious franchising contracts in our industry, with limits, rules, rights, and significant entry fees—even for brands that are not super well-known. 💸 For the rest, there are super-binding partnership contracts, which, for our industry, I would say are ideal. 🤝 One thing that strikes me when discussing franchises and/or partnerships is the perception of #Marketing. 📈 A few weeks ago, I spoke with an #industry expert who didn’t grasp the importance and difficulty of managing two types of marketing when #expanding. 🌍 The #franchisor or headquarters has a duty to ensure that the #franchisee or partner receives the best international and general marketing, providing equal coverage to all its partners, offices, etc. 🌐 On the other hand, national communication strategies may differ. 🇫🇷🇮🇹🇪🇸🇺🇸 Why? Do you really think that Coca-Cola’s advertising is the same in France, Italy, Spain, or the U.S.? Absolutely not! 🥤 Understanding these country-specific differences can help you avoid unsuccessful ventures. 🌍💡 What has always worked for you does not mean it shouldn’t be revised. 🔄 Last tip: Marketing evolves at an impressive speed. Designs and communications from 2019 are already outdated today. 🕰️ Example? Costa Crociere / Costa Cruise Line. It has been a hectic summer for our team and I took a while to sort out my thoughts from this holiday home in Apulia. So many #PMs from all over the world literally contacted us to prepare for the autumn/winter season 24/25. The large PMs are worried about having had a below-expectation summer, considering the last 2 years, and the small ones are worried about the restrictions coming into their areas of operation. For the latter, diversifying is a MUST, if they want to continue to have a job and/or a business worth something when they sell it. For the Tigers of VR (the large PMs) on the other hand, I offer them a de-scaling job. In the rush to grow and show their muscles, they have lost their uniqueness and strategy. Very often they took all kinds of products and in high season they hired staff or made crazy contracts with suppliers....that once the emergency was over... only costs were left. So how do you do it? We analyse the balance sheet and the product one by one. Sometimes the number does not correspond to the profit, on the contrary.... sometimes some houses that require 1,000 attentions to operation are just costs, and no matter how bad it sounds, you have to say NO! If you have a solid base you can build on top (with strategy of course) otherwise as soon as you put a heavy brick the whole scaffolding collapses. Now that a quieter season is approaching for many PMs, take some time to review your portfolio, contracts, suppliers and expenses.
