I have very little in common with John.
As a female in business, especially one with a young family, I have came to realise that the rules for men and women are very different in this world.
Maybe I was naive to think we had equality? Maybe biology plays too large part?( My male partner is certainly not as good as me at growing, birthing and breastfeeding children and I don’t hold that against him.)
What can change though, is how women are mentored and supported. I feel like sometimes, even the best business advice is not always relevant for me.
There can be many reasons for this, such as:
- Women still take on the largest responsibility for childcare and therefore longer career breaks
- Women with families still take on a larger proportion of emotional planning and chores at home compared to men with families
- Women are less likely to take risks
- There are fewer business networks for women
And now I read that most business books are written by men too.
Where are the powerful female roles models handing out relevant advice to other females?
I don’t have answers.
Genuinely, where are they? I want to see more, hear from more and read what they have to say.
Maybe they’re too busy.
