Through the dangers of geopolitics and piracy, you continue to feed, energize, and drive world trade as only 'key workers' can. Those who have sailed understand the unique stresses you face and the skills needed to do a safe and professional job. My #safetytipsatsea: If you are unsure - about anything - ask for help. Ask your crew mates, and ask your team ashore. A simple question can save lives.

📍#SeafarersAroundTheWorld 📍 ✅ I was scrolling the daily maritime/LNG news 💻 and I stumbled across the below photo which hit deeply 🌪. ✅ You think it is sarcastic photo but actually it is a fact picture 🎯. ✅ I have been working, and most of the seafarers, with incompetent and even competent but arrogant and bully senior officers/engineers that transform your contract onboard to a nightmare 🔥. ✅ Not only the seafarer sometimes lives his hard time onboard away 🌎 from his family, and this kind of people add the water to the boiled oil for no reason 🚨. ✅ Yes, I call them #Clowns exactly as the below picture is showing and they don’t even deserve ❌ to sail onboard ships. ✅ One of the reasons to become a #Captain was to avoid these red noses 🔴 and transform the atmosphere onboard my ship to the opposite ⭐. ✅ It is overwhelming when a seafarer comes to you and says “Captain please stay more onboard, we are very happy sailing with you” 🙏 ✅ Have you ever sailed with these #Clowns ❓❓ 📷: Danica #shipping #shippingindustry #Seafarers #MLC #Harrasment #Wellbeing

Today is the Day of the Seafarer, when we show our appreciation for the work of seafarers and recognise the importance of their safety at sea for us all. Safety is critical wherever we work, but safety issues can quickly become a matter of life and death at sea. Keeping seafarers safe is both a moral and practical priority. As a mariner that stopped sailing after 5 years, from my experience, money is only one factor that is keeping younger sailors from continuing a career at sea. Monitoring the mental health of sailors has not been a priority within the industry. Unfortunately, that is leading to extreme measures taken by the sailors. It is all too common to leave sailors onboard vessels well beyond their due dates. There is no connection between the sailors and the shoreside personnel, often leaving sailors feeling abandoned or as "just a number". There is no "thank you" after spending months at sea, just an order to move on to the next port or ship. The article is also correct about the lack of opportunity for mariners to shift to shoreside positions. I do miss going to sea and feeling that sense of accomplishment. I might go back if I know that mental health of sailors is a company priority, and if I can determine better shoreside transition opportunites.
