However, a remarkable resurgence in tourism is evident, particularly in intra-Asian travel. Notably, there has been substantial investment in Asia, with The Pacific islands, such as Fiji, spearheading tourism infrastructure development. For instance, Fiji is on course to construct 5000 hotel rooms, supported by recent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the Middle East and similar stories in other SIDS. ASEAN is also poised for significant growth, with Nikkei reporting plans to double passenger capacity in countries like Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Cambodia. Anticipated developments project a total annual passenger handling capacity of at least 653 million people by 2030. This growth is accompanied by a surge in new aircraft and infrastructure projects to meet the escalating demand. But Canada is just beginning to catch up after years of cutbacks, according to The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTCC). The WTTC annual Economic Impact Report highlights the changes and growth taking place worldwide in the travel and tourism sector. Projections show that in 2025 China and India will be the only countries to see more than 10% in annual change.

At its Global Summit in #kigali today, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) , in collaboration with VFS Global, revealed that the #african Travel & Tourism sector could add US$168BN to the continent’s economy and create over 18 million new jobs. According to the report, ‘Unlocking Opportunities for Travel & Tourism Growth in Africa’, this potential #growth is dependent on three key policies to unlock annualized growth of 6.5%, reaching a contribution of more than US$ 350BN. The report includes a policy package focused on improving Africa’s growth based on air infrastructure, visa facilitation and tourism marketing. Travel & Tourism is a powerhouse sector in Africa, with a contribution of more than US$ 186BN to the region's economy in 2019, welcoming 84 million international travellers. Saudi Arabia had more than 100m tourists who spent SR100bn ($26.7bn) in 2023, according to the Kingdom’s Minister of Tourism. The tourism sector in the Kingdom is said to have achieved its goal of hosting 100 million tourists in 2023. Of these, there were 77 million domestic and 27 million international tourists, who collectively spent SR100bn ($26.7bn). The Crown Prince’s new strategy aims to attract 150m tourists, some 80 million domestic and 70 million international tourists, by 2030. #Morocco’s #tourism revenues reached MAD 97.4 billion ($9.8 billion) at the end of November, an increase of 15.8% compared to a year earlier. The Exchange Office said today that Morocco attracted 13.2 million tourists as of November and revenues from the sector jumped from MAD 84.12 billion ($8.5 billion) to MAD 97.4 billion. According to the office, the revenues exceeded the level reached in the first 11 months of 2019, when the sector generated MAD 72.8 billion ($7.3 billion).
