Companies in the manufacturing sector are looking to increase gender diversity in their workforce driven by advantages like less attrition and creating a positive and productive work environment, report Ishita Ayan Dutt, Shine Jacob, and Sohini Das for Business Standard. 🚙 At Tata Motors' shop floors, 13% of the workforce and 23% of hires are women. The company aims to increase the share of women on shop floors to 25% in the future. At Tata Steel, 7.5% of the workforce on the shop floor as of September 2023 are women. 🏭 Women manage some of the production lines at JSW Steel facilities. Almost 6% of the company's workforce comprises women — a number they're looking to increase to 15% by 2030. 👩🏭 ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India has doubled the percentage of women on its shop floor over the last four years, while Anand Group's shop floor consists of 20% women. The latter plans to grow this number to 30% by 2025. 🚛 Ashok Leyland has an all-women production line in Tamil Nadu, while Ola Electric's Future Factory workforce comprises of only women. Deloitte's Blue Collar Workforce Trends Report 2023 — which covers 104 organisations and 300 manufacturing units — states that the female blue-collar workforce participation stands at 8%. This is an increase of 2% over the last couple of decades. Sectors leading in gender diversity ratios are life sciences, automotive, and engineering design, driven by their high degree of automation, skilled talent requirement, and premium pay, adds the report.
