Big things are built one brick at a time and this applies to our team, too. Each member of the Baker Team plays a critical role in the blocks of our blueprint for success in all that we do. Meet the challenge-seekers who make up Team Baker, kicking it off with Kevin! 🟦 Kevin Loftus, AIA, Senior Vice President ☑️ Expertise: Architecture, development, and construction management ☑️ Other Skills: Evaluations of development opportunities, invaluable expertise in achieving high-quality designs and cost-effective construction solutions ☑️ Career Highlights: Oklahoma City Federal Building; former DuPont Chemical brownfield redevelopment in Chicago; award-winning commercial/industrial projects in Chicago and Phoenix metro areas ☑️ Baker Project Mention: 72-acre redevelopment of the 52nd & McDowell former Motorola superfund site (https://lnkd.in/gz_Ht4zr) ☑️ Giving Back: University of Illinois at Chicago College of Architecture; Merit School of Music in Chicago; Member of American Institute of Architects; Docomomo US Q: How did you first get involved in this profession and CRE development? A: Architects normally see a project brought to them by clients after several stages of the process are already underway. After gaining tremendous experience in architectural firms, I became more interested in the development process as a whole from conception to completion. I was fortunate to land at Baker, where that was realized since day one. I am proud to help build and maintain strong relationships with high-quality design and construction teams for our projects. Q: What is one piece of advice you’d offer someone looking to get into development and construction management today? A: Development is very dynamic and there are a lot of different roles that rely on each other. I found the best way to contribute is to commit to a role that interests you most and be patient. This helps build your skills and reputation as someone others can rely on. Q: What is the best part of what you do? A: Being part of a team that approaches complex projects #meettheteam #meetteambaker #team #expert

A recent post by the Manhattan Contrarian argues for a pragmatic reexamination of New York’s mandates for a sustainable energy transition. It questions some of the aggressive provisions of NYC Local Law 97 aimed at “greening” NYC’s building stock—and it makes some valid points. SUPERSTRUCTURES is attempting to remain above (or beside) the fray. We have long subscribed to the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s position that “the greenest building is one already built.” The concept of embodied energy in the built environment calls for a fundamental shift away from disposable structures toward a new model of adaptive reuse, one that honors embodied energy as an “unnatural resource” we can’t afford to waste. SUPERSTRUCTURES’ growing list of Lucy G. Moses Preservation awards from the New York Landmarks Conservancy attests to the firm’s commitment to preservation that maintains the embodied energy of landmark buildings while often improving their future performance. If you’re intrigued by our mission to preserve New York City’s landmarks using state-of-the-art tools and methods, consider joining our team of skilled, resourceful architects and engineers: https://lnkd.in/gmCFc9DH #restoration #greenbuildings #hiring

Today I spoke to my daughter's 3rd grade class about construction, engineering and technology...and it.was.awesome ! These 8 and 9 year olds were asking amazing questions : + what's your favorite jobsite you've ever worked on ? + have you ever had a safety accident on a jobsite ? + are there more boys or girls in construction ? + what types of engineers are there ? + how did you know you wanted to be in construction ? …and when I asked them how many of their family members are in the construction industry a huge number of kiddos raised their hands - from landscaping to power lines to bridges - it was awesome. …and last, I had a young girl come up to me at the end and say 'I really like math and science, do you think I’d be a good engineer' and I saw her beautiful future flash before my eyes. So my ask is for you all to find ways to encourage those around you by introducing construction + tech + engineering through your own story. CP Engineers, Architecture & Environmental Services (CP) is proud to join fellow New Jersey businesses in a public and private partnership to help bring federal funding to the state to bolster our economy and manufacturing. Working closely with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), we have been discussing the CHIPS and Science Act, federal legislation that aims to strengthen American manufacturing, supply chains, and national security, as well as invest in research and development, science and technology, and the workforce. While we know that New Jersey is a strong candidate for CHIPS Act Funding, we also know states all over the country are competing for it and we must make a strong case to get our piece of the pie. That’s why we’re helping to produce a plan to showcase the success that will come out of New Jersey with the help of this federal funding that will not only benefit the state, but the whole country. With a 40-year history serving the public and private sectors, CP is a multi-discipline engineering, architecture, and environmental services consulting firm that offers effective, precision-crafted solutions that blend art and science to address even the most complex challenges. A new battle could be brewing for Idaho’s construction industry. As developers seek to continue transforming the Treasure Valley, filling in dirt lots in Boise with towers and building new neighborhoods in Eagle, there are growing concerns that incoming mega-projects such as the $15 billion Micron expansion and the new data center for Meta in Kuna could tie up the vast majority of construction workers in a state already facing labor shortages. Read more on Idaho Statesman at https://lnkd.in/gYksbaq5. Structural design is the core of our business. Our experienced structural engineers are ready to give your vision life with ingenuity and know-how. Engineering Manager Turned Recruiter || I Help Civil & Structural Engineers Find Amazing New Jobs! || Founder @ Agavos Group
“What if this position doesn’t get filled?” It’s a scenario most engineering managers don’t plan for. 10 years ago, companies had 20+ applicants for an open structural engineering position. Now, they're lucky to get one good applicant after 2 months from job ads. If your primary recruiting strategy is to “post and hope,” 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫. Because this exact situation is common for many firms right now. And it will continue to be through the rest of the decade. The firms that can find a way to get in front of passive candidates with awesome job opportunities that include: -- High pay -- Great benefits -- No overwork -- Growth opportunities -- And more Are going to thrive. The ones that keep using old strategies and expecting a different outcome will not. P.S. - I'm on a 60-day mission to help at least 3 structural/forensic engineers find a career advancement opportunity. 👉 If you're a structural/forensic engineer in the USA who is looking for a career advancement opportunity, please DM me. 👇 If you've ever been curious about what it's like working for yourself, read on. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐃𝐀𝐘 42 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: -- Traveled home most of the day. Caught up with some messages on LinkedIn and made a few posts for the afternoon. -- Heard back from a structural engineer who gave me some feedback on a role I am recruiting for. Love when I get these! Very thankful. -- Prepped my recruiting efforts for the week. I have many structural engineers in Dallas to follow up with. -- Wrote posts for this week.

I help technical founders get investment and sales through clear messaging, smart strategy and effective implementation | Founder at Lucid Consulting
Let's clarify the distinction between a generalist and a specialist: A specialist innovates new knowledge within a specific focus area, such as creating advanced technologies or processes. On the other hand, a generalist excels at optimizing existing knowledge to enhance outcomes. For instance, a specialist might develop groundbreaking building materials that are significantly stronger than current options. Meanwhile, a generalist could utilize this material to revolutionize construction by making buildings at a rapid pace. Both are necessary and often in balance. We'll move from one era of specialists ruling the day and then flip to generalists the next. Whether you're a generalist or specialist, do the best you can because your work is needed.
