Master Training on Brewing Excellence This topic captures the essence of the training program by emphasizing the pursuit of excellence in the brewing process. It conveys the application of Lean principles, inspired by Toyota's success, throughout the entire brewing journey — from selecting quality ingredients to delivering a top-notch product. The inclusion of "Lean Principles" signals a commitment to efficiency, waste reduction, and continuous improvement, which are key elements of the Toyota Production System. The phrase "from Grain to Glass" reinforces the comprehensive scope of the training, covering every stage of the brewing process. "Three Decades of Dedication: A Journey in Operations, Sales, and Ethical Leadership with Brian Doucet.” Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today. Could you tell us about your tenure with the company? BD: I've been a part of Maritime Paper for a solid 34 years now. Interviewer: Impressive! Could you elaborate on your current role and its significance within the company? BD: Absolutely. My role in the company encompasses both operations and sales. Working out of the Summerside PE distribution center, I ensure that shipping, receiving, and inventories are efficiently managed to meet our PEI customers' requirements. I’m also responsible for sales for the PEI territory, working in hand with present and future customers to deliver packaging solutions tailored to their needs. Interviewer: That's quite a comprehensive role! Could you walk us through your journey leading to this position, highlighting your career progression? BD: I began my career at Maritime Paper as a CSR in the Customer Service Dept. From there, I transitioned into roles in the planning office, beginning as the corrugator planner and later the plant planner. These experiences were instrumental as they equipped me with invaluable knowledge of the box manufacturing process. I've held my current position since 1998, leveraging my cumulative experience in this field. Interviewer: What aspects of your role provide you with the most satisfaction? BD: I find immense satisfaction in providing solutions that contribute to our customers' success, thereby benefiting both myself and the company. I take pride when I see one of my boxes out in the marketplace, knowing that my efforts directly led to that box being developed and implemented. Interviewer: That's fulfilling work indeed. What ethical values do you prioritize, aligning with the company's policies? BD: I strongly believe in treating everyone I interact with respectfully, irrespective of the circumstances. I’m also proud that as a member of a corrugated box supplier, I am invested in providing packaging solutions that are the packaging of choice when it comes to environmental sustainability and a circular economy as they are made from renewable resources and are recyclable. This aligns with ethical values that prioritize sustainability and responsibility towards the environment. #PridePassionAndPurpose

Managing safety vs. Leading safety 🚀 I have a friend called Austin who works in an electronics factory as a safety manager. One day, his GM walked into the warehouse and found that the housekeeping was a mess 😮 The GM hastened out of the warehouse and called my friend, "Austin, the warehouse has many safety problems. Can you come and fix it?" The GM then returned to his office. Austin went to the warehouse, spoke to the warehouse manager, and urged him to take the necessary actions. After the event, Austin was irked by the response of his GM. “He could have spoken to the warehouse manager directly. One sentence from him is more powerful than ten from me,” Austin remarked. “But he wanted to be a nice guy, and so he made me the bad guy.” While the GM often remarked that safety is important, his action sent the message that safety is the job of the safety manager—not him🙅🏻♂️ He also sent the message to the warehouse manager that poor housekeeping is tolerable—because silence means consent 🤐 This GM was managing safety, not leading it. This is how leading safety looks like: The GM steps forward and asks the warehouse manager, “Hey XX, the housekeeping standard here is unacceptable. What happened? ….How can I help?” Had he gone that way, the message received would have been completely different. And that's how leaders change culture—one person at a time, one conversation at a time. Such 'small' day-to-day interactions matter as much as those big company-wide decisions. #safetyculture #safetyleadership
