Surprisingly, NTWRK bought Complex without the food-centric "First We Feast" brand which produces the YouTube series “Hot Ones”. Possibly a major fumble. First We Feast will operate independently alongside BuzzFeed's other brands BuzzFeed, HuffPost, and Tasty. In an afford to raise profitability, BuzzFeed also announced laying off 16% of people and a strategic restructuring. For BuzzFeed, this is definitely a defensive move, and in the current environment and given the looming de-listing (unless the stock price gets above $1 by the end of May 2024) and depth repayments ($150,000,000) end of 2024 it makes sense. Rumor has it that cost-optimizations are not over yet and that "The Independent" might take over BuzzFeed's operations in the United Kingdom. NTWRK is an e-commerce company, offering curated livestream shopping experiences focused on art, sneakers, fashion, etc. With YouTube and TikTok pushing into the creator e-commerce space, NTWRK needs to hurry up to build a moat. Aaron Levant, the founder of NTWRK, helped launch ComplexCon back in the day and likely has a good understanding of the value bot companies can generate. Amrita Mathur recently left the startup world to join ClickUp as VP of Marketing. On Humans of Martech we asked her if she's sitting up in an ivory tower now that she's at a 1,000+ person $4B company... or if she's still getting her hands dirty? Amrita explained that at ClickUp, there’s no detachment between the upper management and the operational workforce; instead, the organization champions a flat hierarchy. Everyone is encouraged to be involved in operational tasks, regardless of title. Their CEO reinforces this by advocating for a culture where being ‘in the details’ is not just encouraged but required. This philosophy challenges the notion that senior positions are synonymous with distance from the day-to-day ops and probably helps with accountability and shared responsibility. I’ve come to learn that the timing of a new career opportunity at least as, if not more important than, the opportunities themselves! After spending a rewarding year working across a number of companies and teams in the marketing data and GenAI space, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined my old friends Joseph Hirsch, Rich Lin, Danielle Rosen, MBA, and Matt Dearborn (all of SpringServe fame) in this latest venture, PilotDesk Inc., as President. I am genuinely ecstatic to be back in the nerd-tastic world of ad servers, ad operations, yield management, and media optimization after learning the ins and outs of the data and identity space over the past several years. What's old is indeed new again. Why would I do such a thing? Paraphrasing Scott Galloway: Go with what you are great at. Being great at something will inevitably lead to a passion for it. True story Scott. So while I may not be great at many things (let’s say golf), I have been able to figure out how to build and scale technology and data businesses throughout the media ecosystem. And why PilotDesk? The team, the product strategy, and some early success stories with our first set of customers. We’ve also got some amazing investors and board members especially in Mike Shehan and Phil Herget who led our $3M seed round just a month ago. PilotDesk has taken a unique approach to automating what is an endlessly expensive and relentlessly repetitive set of problems: Advertising operations. No matter how “intelligent” your ad servers, SSPs, or DSPs are under the proverbial hood, you still need large teams of people to constantly turn the dials and levers within those systems to get campaigns to deliver in a way that maximizes returns in whatever ways you need them to. PilotDesk neatly complements these delivery platforms by automating many ad operations tasks thus allowing our mutual customers to refocus their precious resources on more important work. More than 250 downloads and 4 sales meetings. All of that in the first few weeks of launching a new asset for my client, WorkBuzz. As a rapid growth scale-up, WorkBuzz's sales targets grow each quarter. So when the former Head of Content said he was moving on to pursue his dream job, Rebecca Stanley and Gary Gould had a short-term problem to solve: "How do we ensure our demand generation engine keeps accelerating?" Excited to share insights from my recent participation in an industry study led by Candu focused on product growth in SaaS companies such as Canva, Hotjar, Zapier and more.. Here are a few key takeaways: 🔍 Organizational Structure: The majority of Product Growth (PG) teams report to a CPO, followed by the VP Growth. Typical PG teams consist of a Product Manager, a Designer, and at least four engineers. Larger teams also include Product Marketers, Growth Marketers, and Data Analysts. My team at CBDistillery recently increased our organic traffic conversion rate from 6.2% to an impressive 9.5%! Here are some of the key changes we implemented that contributed to the growth: 1. Enhanced our on-site upsell strategy to focus on one single product recommendation 2. Launched and improved a new sticky promo bar 3. Tested a video vs static hero image on our homepage 4. Added a new UGC section to our homepage with FlowBox 5. Changed the composition of our hero image from a horizontal to a vertical stack 6. Reworded our "Product Descriptions" to "Product Benefits" 7. Added a new feature image on all PDPs showing the form factor + benefit iconography These simple changes demonstrate the importance of continually testing and optimizing our website for a better, more efficient customer experience. While the entire team had their hand in the strategy behind these changes, the design and execution was lead by our very talented Ian Jones. Our Valuation Hit $62K 🙈 in 2 Months Of launching Lancepilot! 👉On April 8th, we launched Lancepilot and quickly secured the #1 spot in daily, weekly (marketing), and monthly (marketing) categories on Product Hunt. Since then, we've been inundated with customer inquiries, made several sales, and have over 300 sign-ups! 👉We've done this without any promotional campaigns, simply by addressing customer queries and refining our product based on their feedback. This focused approach has propelled our valuation to $62K USD, a fantastic start! ( we are fully bootstrapping ) ✅We're anticipating a surge in our user base in the coming months, and we're confident our valuation will continue to soar. 💯The key takeaway?
