This weekend Epic Games ran its latest Fortnite event. I wouldn't call it a virtual concert, more a grab bag marketing promotion of a bunch of game mode stuff jammed together. Basically game mode previews with lots of VFX filler and songtime at the end. Fortnite’s The Big Bang (Full Event Video) Epic Games - Fortnite (Time 11:10) YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gdC-xNby This event was a promotion for 3 new game modes being added to Fortnite: (1) Lego Fortnite, a loosely survival crafting game genre, made for Lego (2) Rocket Racing - car racing, from Psyonix (bought by Epic in 2019) (3) Fortnite Festival, ryhthm game from Harmonix (bought by Epic in 2021) plus a tiny musical featurette to close out the show. (4) A micro virtual concert set by Eminem (3 min 18sec) 11 minutes total. Lego fortnite looks less like Roblox and more like rebranded survival mode. And Fotrtnite Festival is no substitute for Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Oh and new player skins for Family Guy's Peter Griffin and Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake. Nothing bur crass commercialism, but hey that's what everyone wants in their shooter? Fortnite's New Chapter: Beyond Battle Royale Since the launch of Creative 2.0, Fortnite has been transitioning from a battle royale game to a sandbox platform similar to Roblox and Minecraft. This shift emphasizes player creativity, allowing users to not only play but also create games. Over the weekend, Fortnite showcased its latest evolution beyond battle royale with the 'Big Bang' event. This change is part of a broader strategy by Epic Games, structured in three key steps. 𝟭. 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The relaunch of OG Fortnite broke records for users playing the game leading up to the "Big Bang event," which became one of the most anticipated gaming events of the year. 𝟮. 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀: In 2022, the LEGO Group (alongside Sony) invested over 1 billion into Epic Games. We saw a year's work finally be released with the trailer for a survival/crafting LEGO adventure game mode. Fortnite has historically skewed to an older demographic, and this move aims to attract audiences from the younger demographic. 𝟯. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀: The most exciting aspect of the Big Bang event was Epic, showcasing the future capabilities of games within Fortnite. Traditionally, the only gameplay Fortnite offered was shooting or building. The trailer introduced two new features: a racing game and a Guitar Hero-style game. This is likely just the beginning of Fortnite's creativity, as introducing more diverse features can enable users to create even more innovative and creative games. This event was a massive crossover of new technology and innovative use of intellectual property. Fortnite is trying to prove it is not just a battle royale game but a content engine for games, music, entertainment, and more.
