I found myself celebrating quite a few milestones recently. Well, here's another one...
Back in 2005, I decided to leave TI and formed an LLC in the State of Texas. It was called Romatix Technologies LLC (hence my personal email as [email protected]. It never changed...). I was going to leave Texas Instruments and help companies innovate and find the next big thing. Before handing in my two-week notice, I met with a friend, Marc Cetto, who actually hired me into TI in 2002. I wasn't working for him at the time and wanted to run this by him and see what he thought. He liked it enough to convince me not to leave, but instead move into his business unit and do it there, full-time. So I stayed.
In 2008, I decided to leave again, when a recruiter reached out to me and asked me I speak with another company. I met the CEO, and offered my services as a company, instead of as an individual. He liked what I offered, but needed me to work there full-time. So, I left TI and started at Interphase.
In 2015, I turned 50, and asked myself what would I want to do in retirement. I still had time to think, but realized that my three passions are: researching, writing, and speaking/teaching. In general, it was to increase my knowledge and share it. So, in June of that year, I contracted the development of a logo, ordered business cards, and even branded shirts... At that point, I also realized that Interphase was not going to last forever, and made a conscious decision to stay with it until the end. The end came on September 30, 2015. As of October 1, 2015, I was completely on my own.
I changed the name of the company from Romatix Technologies LLC to the Innovation Culture Institute LLC (not to mention trademarking the name...).
Up until that point, I had worked for companies for just shy of 7 years, almost every time.
Today, I just completed the longest I ever worked for a single company, 8 years, except that it wasn't only the longest, but it was also MY company.
Here's to the next 8 years with my company, the Innovation Culture Institute LLC (AKA Trust Habits Institute). The future is bright!
