#Technomics would like to recognize our three scholarship winners from the Technomics Reach Scholarship Program who will be pursuing STEM degrees at George Washington University, George Mason University, and the University of Virginia! These exceptional students have demonstrated academic excellence and unwavering determination, and after getting to know them at last night’s annual Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA) event, we can't wait to witness their accomplishments in the coming years! The Technomics Reach Scholarship program, established in 2021, aims to make a meaningful impact on a diverse selection of local students by providing need-based STEM scholarships to seniors at Alexandria City High School. Each year, Technomics is committed to awarding three 4-year scholarships currently $48,000. Our objective is to enable educational opportunities for these students with financial needs to drive the pursuit of a career in STEM. To date, nine students have been named Technomics Reach Scholars, and Technomics has awarded $144,000 in awards to these students collectively! We encourage more local companies to consider joining the cause!

What's the most common reason students follow a STEM career path? The ASPIRES3 study has the answer. Many in STEM education will know about the ASPIRES study at UCL London. They have just released the third tranche of their research 'ASPIRES3', which now includes survey data from over 47,000 young people between the ages of 10 and 22. The study looks at the educational and employment aspirations, choices, experiences and outcomes of young people in England. The findings are consistent every time a new ASPIRES report is released: In terms of why young people do (or do not) pursue STEM, the longitudinal data revealed that liking their subject was the most common reason reported by young people studying for STEM degrees, followed by feeling competent and ‘good at’ the subject. Enjoyment of a subject starts at a young age. The ASPIRES2 study clearly showed that by age 11 kids had made up their mind whether science was 'for them' or not. House of Science have been delivering fun, hands-on science lessons for over 10 years, with 97% of teachers consistently reporting their students are engaged or highly engaged while using our kits. Check out the ASPIRES3 report here: https://lnkd.in/g858nZ5S And click here to find out more about the House of Science kits: https://lnkd.in/gmQPz2VH

CEO, MN Associates, Inc. (a research & evaluation company) Twitter: @KavitaMNA Email: kavitaATmnassociatesinc.com
As we step into the heart of August, a month showing potential and promise, we find ourselves reflecting on the recent collaboration with the talented minds at Morgan State University with the PI and Co-PI team members (Roni Ellington and Vanessa Dodo Seriki) who have achieved a significant milestone by fully engaging 20+ K-16 "Fellows" in the Maryland Collaborative for Research in Maryland (MD CRUSE) NSF-funded grant (ECR program) from across the state to define, research, and report on the landscape of "Urban STEM Education." It's an accomplishment that has filled all of us involved with gratitude and a deep sense of purpose. MNA was glad to be the evaluator of the grant for three years. With this achievement as our foundation, MNA is now gearing up for the next exhilarating chapter: plunging headfirst into the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded National Research Traineeship (NRT) realm. NRT is dedicated to the effective training of STEM graduate students in high-priority interdisciplinary and/or convergent research areas, through a comprehensive traineeship model that is innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with changing workforce and research needs. Read about the NSF-funded "MD CRUSE" grant here: https://md-cruse.com/ Read about the NSF's NRT program here: https://lnkd.in/gMQTprEg Join us on this exciting journey of learning, discovery, and collaboration that is destined to elevate STEM, STEM education, and interdisciplinary STEM research to newer heights. Author, Coach, Educational Thought Leader, Founder Intuyu Consulting and It Takes a Spark STEM Conferences
Are you presenting yet at our It Takes a Spark STEM conferences happening around Australia? The It Takes a Spark STEM conferences have been running since 2017 and are unique in that they bring together students (Yr 4 - 10) and teachers from across all education sectors to connect with each other, industry, universities and STEM organisations. The aim is to spark sharing and the expansion of what STEM / STEAM can provide to students and teachers with the intent to improve the thinking and practice of all groups. We deliberately focus on Yr 4 - 10 students because this is the period, especially for girls, when they make unconscious decisions about whether they are interested in Science, Maths, Technology, etc. If the students, particularly from low socioeconomic environments, don't experience the breadth and possibilities of STEM for their own lives then they have already tuned out of them before they make career path choices in Yr 9 - 10. Founder and Principal Evaluator | Improved Insights | Helping informal STEM learning organizations amplify their impacts
📣 Calling informal STEM education professionals interested in fellowship opportunities! 📣 As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our field (in ways we would have loved as early professionals and, heck, even today), we've developed an Informal STEM Education Fellowship Directory. In our work compiling opportunities for our bi-monthly Improved Insights newsletter, Insights & Opportunities, we come across all kinds of exciting jobs, professional development, and, yes - fellowships! When putting this list together, our goal was to provide an easily accessible, centralized place for folks in our field to see what fellowships are available to them. We’ve intentionally aimed to represent a wide variety of opportunities that span the range of fields and levels of expertise. This list includes fellowships for graduate students, nonprofit employees, museum staff, and others. Also highlighted in this edition of the newsletter (linked below): 📣 workforce policy recommendations from the Afterschool Alliance detailing how organizations can help more young people access and experience quality afterschool and summer programs 📣 a call from BMC Ecology and Evolution, an open-access peer-reviewed journal looking for paper submissions on citizen science in ecological research initiatives 📣 a fictional book following video game designers I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend 📣 research grants from the William T. Grant Foundation focused on reducing inequality in academic, social, behavioral, and economic outcomes for youth and young people (with youth-serving programs and out-of-school time education focus!) 📣 STEM education and workforce development funding from the International Space Station National Laboratory and STEM Action Grants from Society for Science 📣 numerous jobs (salary always included) and professional development opportunities like the American Alliance of Museums and North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) upcoming conferences and so much more! It's truly a treasure trove for ISE professionals. #InformalLearning #STEMEducation #InformalSTEMEducation #Nonprofits #Evaluation #Museums
