Is Gen Z really different from the rest of us? The alchemy of being born between 1997 and 2012 has delivered a generation of not exactly non-conformists but some seemingly disengaged youths. I mean, they must be disengaged because they see everything differently. Or is it more clearly? Jigsaw, which is part of Google and tasked with researching "threats to open societies," studied the increasingly influential Gen Z generation to understand how they consume information, what they trust and don't trust, and how they divine facts and truth, according to a detailed report in Business Insider. The results were startling to Google and Jigsaw, but I could've saved them time and trouble by detailing my ongoing research involving my Gen Z relation. My non-binary child is 26 and has been schooling me for years on what people their age do and don't do. I understand how they connect or do not connect with peers, gather information, reach consensus, and mostly not take action that they'd perceive as pointless anyway… #genz #socialmedia #tech

TikTok’s Corecore Highlights The Angst And Existential Dread Amongst Young Men by Jack Kelly Forbes Young men are falling behind. They are more likely, compared to women, to sit in their parents’ basement playing video games, watching television and abusing drugs. Up until a few decades ago, men with a high school diploma could get well-paying jobs in factories and other various menial types of labor roles. With the deterioration of the Rust Belt, the United States offshoring manufacturing jobs to China and a college degree serving as a barrier to entry to well-paying jobs, modern men are falling out of the workforce. It's a cascading catastrophe as they lose social skills and self-confidence by sitting home alone, opting out of dating as college-educated women are not likely to engage with unemployed men without any signs of growth potential. Corecore is a fast-growing trend on TikTok with around 600 million views, primarily focusing on the plight of men. 📱 As we think about tech access for our son - this article struck a chord. Jonathan Haidt is right - tech for kids today needs boundaries. Why? Because that's what they want. Read this quote from millennial author Freya India: "..Most of us in Gen Z were given phones and tablets so early that we barely remember life before them. Most of us never knew falling in love without swiping and subscription models. We never knew having a first kiss without having watched PornHub first. We never knew flirting and romance before it became sending DMs or reacting to Snapchat stories with flame emojis. We never knew friendship before it became keeping up a Snapstreak or using each other like props to look popular on Instagram. And the freedom—we never felt the freedom to grow up clumsily; to be young and dumb and make stupid mistakes without fear of it being posted online. Or the freedom to be unavailable, to disconnect for a while without the pressure of Read Receipts and Last Active statuses. We never knew a childhood spent chasing experiences and risks and independence instead of chasing stupid likes on a screen. Never knew life without documenting and marketing and obsessively analyzing it as we went. Now, the next generation? Gen Alpha? I can only imagine the loss they will feel. They are on track to never know friendship without AI chatbots, or learning without VR classrooms, or life without looking through a Vision Pro. They are being born into a world already anxious & atomised. Every generation has to deal with the stereotypes and generalizations that older generations assign to them. For Gen Z, the image of the anxious, anti-social digital native has been hard to shake. Despite everything being thrown at them, Gen Z is actually quite optimistic about the future. A recent survey from Gallup found that despite 44% feeling unprepared, 76% of respondents feel "they have a great future ahead of them," while 82% "believe they will achieve their goals." Instead of deriding and demeaning them for not conforming to old standards, we should encourage and uplift Gen Z as they attempt to achieve their goals - it's how most of us got where we are, after all. #GenZ #FutureOfGenZ #Students #Education #GenerationalDifferences

The Gen Z's. Generalizing an entire generation is unfair and inaccurate. It's true that Gen Z is sometimes labeled as "rude" or "entitled," but this is a broad stereotype that doesn't represent the entire generation. People from any generation can be rude, and there are many Gen Z'ers who are kind, caring, and considerate. Stereotypes like this can be harmful and divisive, and they prevent us from seeing the individual worth and value of each person. Try to see each person as an individual, rather than making assumptions based on their age or generation. It's important to remember that while some Gen Z'ers may have attitudes or behaviors that seem new or unfamiliar to older generations, they're still just people who are trying to navigate life, just like everyone else. It can be helpful to try to understand where they're coming from and what their experiences have been. For example, many Gen Z'ers have grown up in a time of uncertainty and instability, from economic crises to climate change. Their experiences have shaped who they are and how they view the world. Try to put yourself in their shoes and see things from their perspective. One thing to keep in mind is that, generations change and evolve over time. The attitudes and behaviors that we associate with Gen Z today may not be the same in 10 or 20 years. It's important to be open-minded and adaptable, rather than clinging to outdated ideas about what a generation is like. And remember that the next generation will be watching and learning from us. So it's important to model the kind of attitudes and behaviors we want to see in the future. Sometimes generational differences are more about technology and communication styles than about core values. For example, the way Gen Z communicates through text messages, social media, and other digital platforms may seem strange to older generations, but that doesn't mean they're fundamentally different in terms of their values. In my work with teenagers, I've witnessed the rise of social media and its effects on their self-esteem and mental health. Many teens, especially girls, tie their self-worth to likes and comments on Instagram, spending hours trying to curate the perfect image. Facebook fuels cyberbullying and spreads misinformation that leaves kids anxious and confused. I am tired of being a gen-z As a Gen Z-er myself, I've experienced firsthand the dizzying reality of being part of the most hyper-informed generation in history. With the entire world's knowledge quite literally at our fingertips, we have access to an crazy amount of information. The pros are obvious - we can learn about anything, anytime. Need to know the cafes near you? Google has the answer. Curious about the best way to invest your money or how to write a killer resume? There's a lot of advice and tutorials available. However, this access to info isn't always a blessing. The constant stream of news, social media updates, and "how-to" content can be overwhelming. Somewhere in lockdown we forgot that we are still young, dumb & broke😢 It's tough to know what's truly important or accurate. And the pressure to be an expert on everything from climate change to quantum physics can be paralyzing. Plus, all this screen time impacts our attention spans and ability to deeply focus. We often just endlessly scroll without knowing. As a Gen Z-er, I'm learning to be a savvy, discerning consumer of the digital world - cherry-picking what's truly useful, and finding ways to unplug and recharge. I am not going to fall for trends, from quitting the 9-5 world or dropping out of college, just cause it's cool. It's an ongoing balance, but one that's crucial for our generation to navigate. March 3rd was Dyscalculia day- a day to bring awareness to one of the learning challenges that exists. Dyscalculia affects between 5-10% of the general population, but often goes undiagnosed. Dyscalculia is a condition that makes it hard to do math and tasks that involve math.
