The sustainability landscape is rapidly evolving, and CFOs are at the forefront of this transformation. A recent Accenture survey reveals both challenges and opportunities in ESG reporting and management. "Companies that can transform ESG data into insights and embed them into business decisions are better able to identify sustainability-related opportunities, overcome barriers and in the end, generate more value through better decision-making," according to Accenture's global sustainability experts. Key findings from the survey: * Only 22% of CF6Os feel well-prepared to disclose climate-related risks and seek external assurance. * 85% of respondents expect an increase in mandatory ESG disclosures over the next three years. *Of the surveyed companies, 15% already have strong ESG capabilities, using predictive analytics to identify potential ESG risks and opportunities To stay ahead of the curve, CFOs should focus on: 1. Integrating ESG reporting with financial planning and performance management. 2. Automating ESG data collection and building a robust digital core. 3. Developing complementary ESG and finance skills across teams. It's time for finance leaders to move beyond compliance and leverage ESG capabilities as a competitive advantage. What do the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) have in common? Quite a lot! Similarities:  🎯 Similar structure: cross-cutting, topical- and sector-standards  🎯 Similar coverage of sustainability topics:   🎯 Similar definition of impact materiality  🎯 However, there are also some important differences; Differences:  🚨 GRI is voluntary, ESRS are mandatory for organizations in scope of CSRD  🚨 GRI is a standard, ESRS is an European standard  🚨 GRI only applies single/impact materiality, ESRS applies a double materiality perspective  🚨 Furthermore, if you report in compliance with ESRS, you can state that you also report with reference to GRI. However, this statement does not hold the other way around. To assist organizations in reporting with the GRI standards through their ESRS sustainability statement, we’ve written a blog in which we elaborate on the differences and similarities between the two standards. And, we discuss how EFRAG’s (draft) joint interoperability index can help your organization with becoming GRI- and/or CSRD-compliant.
