As young professionals we often overlook the power of "yet."   It's easy for anyone to get discouraged with the competitiveness of college admissions, the job market, and even academic success. You can be passed up on for opportunities for any number of reasons, and you can feel like you've failed. In school, when I get grades that fall below my personal goal, it feels like I have failed. But, by incorporating "yet", as encouraged by Carol Dweck in her video about growth mindsets, falling short is exciting. It provides room for growth, improvement, and learning. "Yet" can turn failures into possibilities. I’m not eligible for the job I want... yet. I didn't get into the club I applied to... yet. I didn't get the score I hoped for... yet.   After learning about the power of "yet," thanks to Mika J., I've decided to make it a personal goal of mine to spend less time focusing on what I can't achieve now, and instead look forward to what I have the potential to achieve. Having a growth mindset is a continuous journey that opens countless opportunities even if you haven't mastered it yet. 

Love this notion of ‘Not Yet’. This week, I’ve been learning more about having a growth mindset, for myself and my team. It's important to remember that we don't always have to have all the answers right away. Sometimes, we may not have the skills or knowledge needed to succeed in a certain area, but that doesn't mean we never will. By adopting a 'Not Yet' attitude, we can embrace the learning process and understand that growth takes time. Let's continue to strive for progress, not perfection.
