For the most stressful medical job in 2022, the highest percentages of burnout occurred among six physician specialties. They are: Emergency medicine: 62%. Hospital medicine: 59%. Family medicine: 58%. Pediatrics: 55%. Obstetrics and gynecology: 54%. Internal medicine: 52%. Meanwhile, just 52% of pediatrician respondents reported feeling valued by their organization. Sadly this trend is only getting exacerbated in 2023. If you do not have a game plan to battle burn out as a physician please start to draft one! Pharmacist, Medical Writer I Published researcher in women's health, pediatrics and drug discovery | Clinical and operational project leader
One of my favorite parts of #ASHP23 was serving as a Resident Poster Mentor! I attended several research posters and gave feedback on project design, significance, and overall clarity/organization of the presentation. Items that I routinely noted: 💡 The primary objective is the most important part of your poster. It should represent a question with a clear answer (e.g. % incidence, length of stay, yes/no). If your objective isn’t clear enough to create that specific outcome, dig more! There were many examples of objectives that were as broad as “describe a group of characteristics” when the main study goal was to assess one concrete outcome. 🗣 Your presentation should highlight and add to the understanding of your work! Several instances of just talking through the background (too little) or reading straight off the poster (too much) 🤓 Know your audience: I introduced myself as a pediatric clinical specialist, so no need to review the clinical differences between pediatrics and adults 🌶 Hot take: avoid using p values for your demographic data and adjust your inclusion/exclusion criteria instead to ensure balanced study groups(https://lnkd.in/eY7Yb3-f; https://lnkd.in/eEFxwndP) It is inspiring to see the experience in scientific study design and medical writing provided to post-doctoral pharmacy practice residents. We are cheering for you, keep up the great work!

Reboot Communications Let’s examine the physician pipeline: Our 17 (soon to be 20) Canadian medical schools graduate approximately 3,000 new doctors each year, but they all require further training and select around 30 “entry-level” specialties. Most specialize further, but only about 45 percent are choosing to engage in family medicine as a career, and just 50 percent of those are opting to provide the continuing and comprehensive care that would address the needs of unattached patients. Simple arithmetic tells us that the current pipeline will result in no more than about 700 additional family doctors each year. #hcs
Opinion: This is why you don’t have a family doctor
