As of September 2023, AviationValues’ database shows a total of 111 A330neo deliveries to commercial operators. The vast majority of these are A330-900s. By comparison, AviationValues tracks 1,196 A330ceo (A330-300 and A330-200) aircraft in passenger configuration that are still live from a production run that spans nearly three decades from 1993 to 2022. An additional 62 are in freighter configuration (38 new production and 24 passenger conversions); and 49 in Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) usage (43 new production, 6 conversions). Some interesting Chinese OS reports that the third COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China) airliner program is further along in its prelim design stage and primarily focused on long-haul. Reportedly part of old C929 program but now sans Russia, the planned long-range 250+seat wide-body twinjet airliner capacity range c.12,000km seems to be taking on a different type of function. Still dual-purpose, but hoping to give airbus and boeing a run for the money maybe?

Astral To Become Launch Customer For E190F Cargo Variant Crossover jets do not only span the gap between regional and mainline aircraft in the passenger sector. They also fill a gap in the freight sector. Kenya-based Astral Aviation is scheduled to be the launch customer for Embraer’s E190F cargo conversion, with delivery scheduled for late 2024. The E190F will join Astral’s varied fleet, whose capacities range from the Fokker F50 (seven tons), up to the Boeing 747-400F (110 tons). In payload terms, the E190F, with a payload of 10.7 tonnes, will slot in between the F50 and the Boeing 727-200F (22 tonnes). I see a parallel with the auto industry here, watch this space over the next twenty years… The first steps by CN to compete with Airbus and Boeing is to produce an aircraft to a specification, think Airbus A320 that will become the backbone of fleets flying within CN. If the manufacuring labour cost of aircraft production is similar to that of cars, coupled with massive, long-term government subsidies, they will, pardon the pun, be off to a flying start. #aviation #aircraft #boeing737 #airbus #chinamanufacturing

Turkish Airlines has confirmed more of its jets will have to be grounded due to an issue with some Pratt & Whitney-built engines. Up to 12 aircraft may have to be grounded before the end of the year, the Turkish carrier said on Monday, after nine of its P&W-powered #AirbusA320 and A321neos faced the same fate last month. “Due to the uncertainties in the process, there is a possibility that this number will be revised upwards,” the airline added. P&W parent RTX flagged the issue with its geared turbofan engines in July, confirming at the time that suspected contaminants in some parts meant the power units needed inspecting. As a result, around 350 Airbus Group (EPA:AIR) jets will likely be grounded annually over the coming three years to be inspected for the microscopic issues.
