Despite the heat, humidity, and raindrops, the Teledyne Marine - North Falmouth team still had a great time at our annual summer employee party on July 11. We had a “Outlaw Grill & Chill” theme, complete with a BBQ truck, line dancing, dunk tank, photo booth, ice cream truck, and raffle prizes. Seeing employees, friends, family, pets, and the most adorable babies all together for a few hours was absolutely wonderful. Happy summer to everyone! Teledyne Marine

Bob Melvin, our VP of Engineering, was recently interviewed by U Mass Dartmouth about the Capstone Project titled “Go Anywhere Profiling Float.” Despite being a self-proclaimed introvert, Bob excelled in discussing the project, showcasing his innate talent for public speaking and presentation. A capstone project is designed to showcase a student’s comprehensive knowledge and expertise in a specific subject or area of study. It represents the culmination of a degree program, synthesizing and applying the knowledge and skills gained. Teledyne Marine was the sponsor of this project, which involved a team of four UMass engineering students tasked with enhancing the market share of the Apex Float, outperforming competitors, and re-engineering the buoyancy engine. The objective was to develop a profiling float capable of operating anywhere. We take great pride in collaborating with students specializing in marine technology and engineering. We congratulate the dedicated and formidable team of UMass engineering students for successfully meeting the project’s objectives. #teledynemarine #capstone

From 27 May – 03 June 2024, Teledyne Marine participated in the Romanian ‘DACIA/TOMIS’ Navy Operational Exercise (OPEX) in the Black Sea from the port of Mangalia, Romania. The exercise provided a platform for numerous NATO countries and select maritime defense industry to exercise cutting-edge, unmanned systems and technologies in a real-world operational maritime environment, while contributing to the improvement and on-going collaboration of the participating Naval forces. The exercise focused on Mine Counter Measures (MCM) and Critical Undersea Infrastructure (CUI) Protection. From several naval vessels and a maritime operations center (MOC), the Romanian Navy directed multi-domain surveillance to detect and handle drifting and anchored mines, monitor marine geospatial parameters, integrate systems for environmental data collection, and survey critical infrastructure. Teledyne showcased multiple technologies to include its triple frequency, SeaBAT 7123 Mk II mine-hunting, multi-beam echosounder sonar and the T20 multi-beam echosounder module the Teledyne Gavia Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV). In addition, Teledyne supported the Romanian Maritime Hydrographic Directorate operations using Romanian Navy - Gavia UUVs and Teledyne Z-Boat Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) equipped with a T20 sonar for harbor security and mapping, and Teledyne Slocum gliders for rapid environmental assessment (REA). Successful imaging of mines and infrastructure provided valuable data for evaluation and follow-on operations. Capt. Travis Schweizer, US Navy (retired), Teledyne Marine’s Senior Director for Naval Expeditionary Warfare summed up the exercise experience, “The Romanian Hydrographic Directorate ran an impressive operation! Teledyne is honored and extremely proud that our technology can add necessary capability to such a respected and valuable NATO partner.” Pictured: Teledyne’s Dr. Tom Altshuler explains the capabilities of Teledyne’s triple frequency 7123 Mk II multi-beam echosounder sonar and the modular Gavia UUV to a Romania OPEX participant.

At this time every year, citizens and decision-makers gather at Folkemødet on Bornholm to engage in meaningful dialogue. From Teledyne Marine, Ole Søe-Pedersen and Lars Munk participated in talks and events throughout the days. Folkemødet attracts around 60,000 participants who join debates, workshops, and speeches. Lars Munk took part in a panel debate on Public Private Partnerships, addressing Critical Underwater Infrastructure, Mission Vital Infrastructure, and Security of Supplies — topics of significant relevance in today's climate. Given Bornholm's proximity to the recent underwater explosions at the Nord Stream pipeline, safety and security were prominent themes this year. It is evident that surveying and monitoring the sea are crucial for protecting critical underwater infrastructure and ensuring the safety of our waterways and ports.
