Space Boundaries Defining where “Space” begins on Earth may seem like a straightforward declaration, but it’s surprisingly complex. Depending on who you ask—a physicist, a climatologist, or a regulator—you’ll likely get three different answers. To establish a unified standard, the FAA has determined that space officially begins at 100 km altitude. Following the FAA’s criteria, KOSMO divides space into “outer” and “inner” space. This classification is crucial due to the diverse range of “space vehicles” operating in these sectors, including drones, aircraft, spacecraft, and satellites. #space #outerspace #innerspace #airspace

On the last day of #AirspaceWorld, how about something out of the ordinary? #space 🚀! The increasing commercialisation of space activities will lead to significantly more launches of spacecraft 🛰️, both globally and in Europe, which will have an impact on the ATM system. This is why we are setting up a Launch Coordination Center. To demonstrate how a large number of future launches and re-entries can be safely and flexibly coordinated with air traffic and maritime navigation activities. It will assist and support missions from planning to real-time monitoring and evaluation. Visit stand D34 to see the Launch Coordination Center in action! #SpaceATM #LaunchCoordination #AirspaceInnovation #DLR #AirTrafficManagement #Echo2

Time to talk commercial space launch 🚀 & recovery operations at #ASW24! Interesting panel discussions at #AirspaceWorld with Dragos Tonea, our Head of iNEO – Integration of New Entrants in European ATM Network Operations - joined by fellow experts from NATS, ICAO, NASA, FAA and Airspace Innovation! 🚀 🏢 In Europe there are already over 24 spaceports designated or in the pipeline, with others to follow into licensed operations in the coming years. #NM, the EUROCONTROL Network Manager, has the capability to manage launches from locations in, or impacting, the NM area. But increasing space operations 🚀 in the years to come may require airspace reservation & other processes to be adapted to reduce any disruption to commercial air traffic ✈️ - as well as to ensure the highest levels of safety are maintained in the network. Also discussed in the panel: 📌 the evolving needs of airspace users & new entrants in higher altitudes 📌 the challenge of safely improving the operational interfaces between space & global aviation systems. #aviation #space #EuropeForAviation

For Ariane 6’s historic first flight, the company’s EXOpod Nova deployer will carry four CubeSats into space. EXOpod Nova, the size of compact carry-on luggage, will be placed on the Ariane 6 upper stage payload adapter. Crafted from durable yet lightweight aluminium, this deployer can securely house up to 16 units worth of CubeSats, while the deployer itself weighs less than 14 kg without them. In a bid to accommodate all types of CubeSats, including those surpassing standard dimensions, the EXOpod Nova is designed for versatility. Exolaunch Mission Manager, Nadine Smolka, highlights the company’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of satellite designs, stating, “We aim to revolutionise the industry and make it easier for our customers to explore the limits of their satellite designs.” Ariane 6 will fly with the EXOpod Nova’s 16 unit version in a three-door ‘S3’ configuration, allowing ample room for four satellites to be positioned. The deployer is intuitive and user-friendly, by design. The EXOpod Nova doors open in response to a signal sent from the Ariane 6 launcher, followed by the push mechanism that releases the satellites into their orbits. 📣 Yahsat, the UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider announced today that it has contracted 📃✍🏻 Airbus Defence and Space for its new geostationary telecommunications 🛰️ , Al Yah 4 (“AY4”) and Al Yah 5 (“AY5”). Contract includes two Airbus ARROW spacecraft platforms for future deployment in low Earth 🌎 altitude orbit. Airbus will design 👨🏻🎨 and build 👊🏻 the AY4 and AY5 satellites based on the Eurostar Neo platform and will also provide ground control 📡 segment components. The flexible multi-band payloads can be fully reconfigured while in orbit, capable of adjusting the coverage area, capacity and frequency “on the fly” to meet evolving mission scenarios. Both spacecraft will have a design life of 15 years and are planned to be launched 🚀 in 2027 and 2028 respectively. Alain Fauré, Head of Space Systems at Airbus, said: “Today marks a real milestone with Yahsat selecting our pioneering fully flexible satellite technology. Sixteen years ago, we signed our first contract with Yahsat, bringing the first sovereign telecommunications satellite to the UAE. And now, our long-standing relationship is moving up a gear with this contract for two Eurostar Neos, further strengthening Yahsat’s in-orbit resources.” More info here 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/dmatj8Xv
