Electric highways are already here.

This is interesting. For trains in Australia the electricity goes from the pantograph (the part that touches the overhead wire) to the ground through the metal wheels/rails. Here it looks like there is a positive and negative pantograph to close the circuit which means you don't have to try and flow the electricity to the ground through the rubber tyres and road. This approach could also be used to recharge batteries in electric vehicles as well so they can work on roads/lanes where the infrastructure is not available. I'm not sure how practical it is in terms of the cost of infrastructure, but interesting idea.
