The most important career development feedback that I wished someone drilled into my thick head earlier on👇 🗣 The relationships you forge early can 10x your career over the long-term (and your reputation will carry those relationships)👇 👩🎤 that quirky & sharp colleague in X department? Could be a CEO one day. 💂♀️ The tough manager challenging you to step up? Could become an SVP at your future dream company. 👨💻 The GM who always seeks your feedback? Could turn into a highly connected VC later on. Don’t treat relationships with colleagues and bosses as unimportant! Late career, the best leadership opportunities are not going to come from a job board - they’ll come from your network. This isn’t to say you should dedicate endless time to all relationships. You have to be selective (eg. cut out toxicity). Know what secretly carries those relationships? Your reputation: ➡ Did you leave a team in the lurch as soon as times got tough? ➡ Did you complicate things for teammates looking for help? ➡ Did you give half the effort on things once it became uninteresting? People will remember what it FELT like to work with you. Your reputation will carry your long-term relationships even with people you rarely interacted with💪

Career Growth 👇 I am often asked what my top advice is for someone wanting to grow and expand their career. Looking back on my career, I believe it boils down to a few simple (not easy!) behaviors: * You must become truly great at what you do. Mastering your current role is always step 1 in career growth. Figure out how to do what you do better than most everyone else- while maintaining a humble attitude and filled with curiosity. * Once you’ve mastered your current role, it’s critical to understand how your work impacts the work of the rest of the organization. Become curious about downstream impacts by building cross functional relationships. Focus on supporting others through your work. * Elevate others. Look for opportunities to connect people, share positive things about coworkers in important settings. Give credit where credit is due. In short: do great work, expand your viewpoint, and serve others. Do this consistently over time and your success is inevitable!

Emotional intelligence is the unsung hero of professional success. It's the ability to understand and manage your own emotions, as well as recognize and influence the emotions of others. In the workplace, this translates to better communication, stronger relationships, and effective leadership. There are a few ways to develop your emotional intelligence: • Practicing empathy • Engaging in active listening • Being mindful of your responses to stress As you cultivate these skills, you'll find that they not only enhance your professional relationships but also open doors to new opportunities and pave the way for a fulfilling career! 📈 One of my favorite things about being a manager is giving people career growth. It's so rewarding to see people hit the next level and their eyes light up with their new future plan. 📞 It's important to make sure you communicate with your staff both good and bad about their career trajectory and be completely transparent. Even if you can't give them what they want, explaining clearly the reasons WHY will go miles in building trust and loyalty. You also need to support any decision they make, even if it's not favorable to you!

When you identify your strengths they will help to assist you in identifying opportunities that are good for you. Knowing your strengths helps you to increase your self-awareness. The career evaluation test by answering just one question- Where do you stand in this framework by Jay Ferro? The three stages of career development are: 1. I want to be in the meeting 2. I want to run the meeting 3. I want to avoid meetings. If you are at 1. , you are looking for a seat at the table as an excited kid. You want to be visible. If you are at 2. , you want to gain authority, maybe you feel a bit powerless like a teenager. You want to be heard. If you are at 3., you have probably done enough of 1. and 2. and you want to be as away from frivolous meetings as possible. You are an adult here. You want to act. unfortunately very few can jump straight to 3. and have to go through 1. and 2. The trick is to realise the frivolity of 1. and 2. and spend the minimum possible time in these stages. Think. Reflect. Change.

I had a conversation last week with 2 clients who coincidentally ranted about their co-workers who exhibited fiery  characters. One mentioned that an act of aggression in the workplace is unprofessional since it caused stress to other colleagues. However a fiery trait does not mean violence and aggression.Let's explore some positive traits of fire elements that could bring dynamic career progression. Individuals with fire personalities thrive on challenges.They tend to view them as opportunities for growth and reinvention. Such adaptability helps them to stay relevant and be sought after in an evolving professional landscape. Just as fire is never static, individuals are go getters who take initiatives and drive results.Their proactiveness could inspire fellow co-workers and at the same time demonstrate their leadership potential. Though one who displays fiery traits are driven, they are warm connectors who build strong relationships with colleagues, clients and superiors. Such ability is one of the key ingredients for professional success. Owning our inner fire is about burning brightly with purpose. Leverage on traits like initiatives, adaptability and warmth could ignite your career path that leads towards achieving your career aspirations.
