We’re roaring through the week and because of which, we thought we’d share this dino of a winning Motion Design by Territory Studio for the category “Interactive > Installation/Experiential” from last year’s Motion Awards. Commissioned by Universal Pictures, Territory Studio transformed ILM’s Giganotosaurus asset into a series of site-specific, interactive installations to celebrate the long-awaited release of Jurassic World Dominion. The experience, showcased on a giant 8mx8m LED screen, combined real-time and pre-rendered assets with a forced perspective illusion, providing visitors an up-close encounter with a larger-than-life 3D dinosaur. Launching in London’s Trafalgar Square, the installation then toured landmark locations in Paris and Rome. Scaling up the made-for-film asset required meticulous pre-planning to ensure the illusion was effective. With limited access to location sites prior to the event, Territory Studio created 3D models from LiDAR scans and captured HDR photos to guide the lighting, positioning, textures and other aspects of the content, ensuring optimal quality at each location.
