A call to action from Guy Relford: GREAT NEWS! The two bills that The 2A Project is strongly supporting this year have not only been passed successfully in the Indiana House of Representatives, they are now BOTH scheduled for committee hearings in the Senate next week. This is a great development because getting a Senate hearing has proven to be a significant challenge on several pro-2A bills in the past. These bills are as follows: HB 1084: Privacy of firearms transactions (prohibits use of credit card codes for gun store purchases). This is a very important bill, because several credit card companies and banks have openly discriminated against gun-related businesses. Using "credit card codes" to identify transactions as gun stores can greatly facilitate that type of discrimination - and HB 1084 would prohibit the use of those codes in Indiana, as well as prohibit the development of any list (or database) of gun purchasers or firearms in Indiana HB 1235: Would require dismissal of Gary lawsuit against gun industry and require any such lawsuit in the future to be filed only by the State. This ridiculous lawsuit, which has been pending for over TWENTY YEARS, seeks to blame the gun industry for the City of Gary's problems with "gun violence." HB 1235 would not only require dismissal of this baseless litigation, it would prevent the filing of similar frivolous lawsuits by local governments in Indiana in the future. We need your support in the committee hearings. HB 1235 is set for a hearing at 8:30 am in the Corrections and Criminal Code Committee in the Senate on Tuesday morning, February 20, in Room 130 of the Indiana Statehouse. HB1084 is set for a hearing in the Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee in the Senate on Wednesday morning, February 21 - also in Room 130 of the Senate. Room 130 is on the 1st floor (basement) of the Statehouse, so just take the elevator to Floor 1 and you'll be able to locate the conference room. We greatly appreciate the fantastic support that we received in the House of Representatives from T2AP members in the committee hearings on HB 1084 and 1235. Several members not only attended the hearings but testified in support of the bills and this helps TREMENDOUSLY. Now we need to replicate - or surpass - that level of support in the Senate. If you can spare the time, please attend the hearings next week, wear your T2AP gear and, if you're inclined, request to testify. Whether or not you attend the hearings sext week, we will continue to keep you advised as these bills make their way through the Indiana Senate. In the interim, please contact your state senator and respectfully ask him or her to support both HB 1084 and HB 1235 in committee and (hopefully) on the floor of the Senate! My second post about our second amendment today... James Madison on why Americans have the second amendment, it is to guard against government interventions. Our second amendment: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Madison feared the federal government as well as foreign governments that would invade the liberty of the American people. He talked about the ratio of a federal military to the amount of armed citizens. Madison writing about this freedom from the Federalist Papers #46: “This proportion would not yield in the United States an army of more that twenty-five or thirty thousand men. To these would be opposed a militia amounting to near half a million of citizens with arms in their hands, officered by men chosen form among themselves, fighting for their common liberties, and united and conducted by governments possessing their affections and confidence. It may well be doubted whether a militia thus circumstanced could ever be conquered by such a proportion of regular troops. Those who are best acquainted with the late successful resistance of this country against the British arms will be most inclined to deny the possibility of it. Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more surmountable than any simple government can admit of. … governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” Maybe this is why some people want to restrict this right. Liberals and progressives want to change American’s traditions and restrict our liberties. They know the right to regulate is the right to destroy. They might be afraid of resistance. Another something to think about, with the Biden open borders we may need to defend ourselves.
