Daily Idea 334 Choosing a Charity / Community Group of the Year Following yesterday’s advice on choosing a charity/community group of the year, here’s part three (of four). This idea focuses on what to look for from any group you seek to support. 3)      So you’ve asked on social media for nominations from your community. Now, create a shortlist of two or three options. Then arrange a chat with them. This point is crucial because you want to feel a connection and rapport with the people involved in the charity/group. Remember, you aren’t committing to anything at this point in the process. We looked for four fundamental things from past groups we’ve supported as our COTYs were: ·      It was easy to arrange an initial phone call. ·      They replied promptly to our invitation. ·      They have a website and social media presence. ·      During that first phone call, we sensed if we could work with them and if they shared our values. The Principle of Charity serves as a valuable reminder in our daily interactions. How often do we misinterpret emails, voice messages, or social media posts? In moments of frustration from misunderstanding, I recall the wise words of my colleague, Michael Usher, who always reminds me, "Craig, remember to exercise The Principle of Charity." Amid our hectic daily communications, our true intent may not always be conveyed or interpreted as intended. It is time for you to stop messing around and make a change. This weekend we cleaned out the house. two truckloads went to the dump, and another truckload to charity. It is my favorite thing to do - I am the opposite of a hoarder. But I don't do it enough in my "work-life" So this week I am challenging at least one thing every day. If it is no longer serving my clients well, I am tossing it. If it is still valuable, I am increasing it. CTA - Join me in a daily examination of something you do - and then stop doing it or increase it, depending on the value it brings to your clients. Who is in?

If your charity has a blog, please can I offer one piece of advice? 📧 Make it easy for people reading your charity’s blogs to sign-up to your charity’s emails. 📧 If someone's gone to the trouble of finding your blog, and has read a post, chances are they are engaged and might be interested in other blog posts. So make it easy for them to sign-up to your emails. It allows them to get more of the same great content from your charity. It’s like saying: “Liked this? There’s plenty more where that came from – just sign up to our emails.” This allows your charity to build an even better relationship with them – which could one day lead to them becoming a donor, if that's why your blog exists. Experiment with email sign-up forms in side bars, peek bars, pop-up boxes, and so on. Don't hide the sign-up form in the footer (or even worse, on its own page on your website 😬). That's all.
