At TCV, we firmly believe in the power of collaboration and partnership with community-based organizations to build and scale solutions that address challenging problems within defined timeframes. Cayley notes, "If we could all learn to disagree better and recognize that we have so much more in common with one another than we have differences, I think we would make a lot more progress on any issue, no matter how challenging the topic.” This sentiment underscores our belief that connection and understanding are essential in driving positive change. I am increasingly passionate about advocating for Entrepreneur Mental Health. To reignite valuable conversations and learnings, I am reposting a fun video montage from the inspiring 2023 QED Global Summit. This event featured two days of presentations and discussions with some of the best minds in fintech. QED Investors demonstrated its commitment to prioritizing the well-being of CEOs and their teams by inviting me to lead a session on mental health education and to facilitate genuine discussions about the stressors they face.  The summit culminated in a powerful message: "We want you to feel supported by us and to create cultures where mental health conversations are welcomed." My vision is for more conferences to create space for authenticity, enabling individuals to share struggles, resources, and uplift one another.  As an Executive Coach with a background in clinical therapy, I see the urgent need to shift the paradigm so that mental health is no longer stigmatized or concealed. It should be seen as a shared responsibility, rather than an issue to be tackled alone. There is vast potential in expanding the support network available to founders, both from VC partners and from within their own community.  I will continue to advocate for this cause and guide my clients to recognize the link between performance, productivity, self-awareness, and well-being. As I collaborate with exceptional founders from around the world, I am more committed than ever to expanding the avenues of support for this community of innovative leaders. So many emotions this morning. Last night was nothing short of amazing. Beginning my second year of Presidency of the Knoxville Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, we kicked the year off with our annual Awards Gala. My first time as president, back in 07-08, I was "in the middle" of everything surrounding the Gala...helping with design, signage, events, you name it. This time around, it was the opposite. Total opposite. Between the lingering effects of my cancer battle, the demands of the new job and the overload of moving my mother home from Florida, I had less than zero bandwidth to deal with any of it. Even worse, I've been so far on overload that a LOT of these kinds of details aren't even on my radar until it's too late. Enter the incredible tribe of friends that is my CSI Chapter. Amazing people like Geoffrey Cavalier, AIA, CSI, who has helped me stay focused, on task and kept me sane at times when I just wanted to walk away. Lauretta Cocke, one of my mentees back the first time around, who now is doing an amazing job with the City of Knoxville Codes Office. The biggest two names are my two rocks...the Dynamic Duo of our Chapter, Kathy Proctor and Suzan Jordan, who did a simply masterful job of...well...EVERYTHING with regard to pulling our event together and making it a success. People often ask me how hard it is to be a Chapter President and the answer is "it is not". The role of the President is to see the vision of the future, design the path and then hand out the strategic tasks while being a cheerleader. The rest will just magically happen. Not really "brain surgery"...just caring for your people and letting them care for you in return. And in all of my career, I've never seen such an incredible outpouring of support as what I witnessed last night. As I said on my FB post, I'm humbled. Incredibly. Davidson Leadership Class: REDI 2023 What has been the impact of REDI on your leadership journey since completing the training, personally and professionally? Encouragement and given me the security to work toward community collaborations and work to bring organizations together on projects to avoid duplication of programs and events. I filed to run for NC Senate District 30 and will be a candidate for the November 2024 elections. What recent accomplishments, projects, initiatives, or points of pride would you like to share? Our organization hosted the first Black History Month Art Invitational, a new artists exhibition. We had eight new artists showcase their art and speak with community attendees. Some of our artists had buyers purchase their first one-of-a-kind artwork. This was a wonderful event, and I am so proud of the outcome. What are the greatest assets in your rural community or region? Our value system assuring that citizens feel like they belong, supporting one another and working toward a better community. I believe those assets will help keep our community striving and thriving and working together to bring more folks together. What are the most significant economic development challenges facing your rural community or region today? Lack of affordable housing open to accepting subsidized housing vouchers and a lack of rental homes for Section 8 recipients. Our community needs more entrepreneurship/small business growth and programs. We need these programs to be visible and easy for interested people to find and learn more about. I also feel we are in need for more local economic development. What advice would you offer to current or emerging leaders in rural areas? Work to bring more collaboration in your rural and smaller communities. Try to pull organizations together to work smarter not harder to provide various opportunities for the community.

🌟 Reflecting on a transformative weekend at the MPI Tennessee Chapter Mid-Year Board Retreat Placemakr 🌟 Stepping into each board meeting or retreat always brings a mix of excitement and nerves. As someone deeply passionate about MPI, I thrive in these spaces as an idea person. Yet, the shadow of past insecurities sometimes looms large, whispering doubts about my adequacy in fulfilling my role. But amidst the anxiety, I remind myself: I am a volunteer, giving my best. This time was different. As VP of Finance in a pivotal transition year for MPI, including a fiscal year extension and a new prospectus, I found myself at the center stage. I poured my heart into crafting a revamped prospectus, tirelessly seeking ways to better serve our sponsors. Presenting it was nerve-wracking; every question felt like a challenge to defend my hard work. However, amidst the scrutiny, a beautiful realization dawned upon me. Each question, each input, was a testament to the community's care and commitment. We weren't just making decisions; we were engaging in a collective effort to elevate MPI. The aftermath of the presentation held the most precious moment. A call from someone I've clashed with, expressing genuine appreciation for my work, reminded me of the power of connection and understanding. Leadership isn't just about delivering flawless presentations; it's about fostering a community where everyone feels seen and valued. This weekend reaffirmed the essence of MPI: leadership, community, inspiration, networking, and above all, lifting each other up.
