Paper alert! Our work on identification of active damping in modular drivetrains was recently showcased at the 3rd International Conference on Electrical, Computer, Communications and Mechatronics Engineering (ICECCME), 2023. The paper highlights an active damping algorithm in a modular drivetrain consisting of multiple variable inertia slider-crank mechanisms actuated by individual motors and linked to a common load. Performance of such a system can be defined by the dynamic position error of all sliders influenced by the system dynamics. A dynamic average consensus allows each actuator to cooperate with its neighbors to actively dampen the unwanted system dynamics by making correction on its position. Simulations present a reduction of dynamic error of the order of 65%. Special thanks to my co-authors Niels Divens and Bernhard Westerhof and my supervisor Koen Laurijssen at MotionS, Flanders Make.
