In early 2023, the City of Gadsden, Alabama retained GMC's planning experts to develop the city’s first comprehensive plan in nearly 50 years – GROW Gadsden. Following several months of community engagement, research, meetings with local leaders and more, the final plan has been revealed! The plan is an action-oriented, strategic guide for the City shaped by the community’s values and establishes a collective vision, with short- and long-term actions to achieve that vision. The specific goals and recommendations of this plan have been developed based on extensive input from the residents of Gadsden to work toward the overall vision established by the public. 🔗 Learn more about the plan: https://bit.ly/49qPtEB #buildingcommunities #gmcnetwork #GMCAlabama #planning #GROWGadsden

"We assume the power and authority that government and corporate leaders possess necessitate not only their involvement in policy formation, but also their initiation of it. We suppose that rules and laws can easily change with a stroke of a leader’s pen, but the snail’s pace of change suggests that leadership at the top is conflicted and restrained—that most leaders lack the will to eliminate stubborn wealth gaps. In short, change that benefits the majority is unlikely to come from the top. For change to occur, we should look to civic action happening on the ground." In his piece of NPQ, Andre Perry of the Brookings Institution breaks down his theory of change, offering five principles for supporting community action that transforms our movements and leads to systems change. He approaches it from the perspective of housing justice, work that is deeply aligned and connected to land justice and racial justice. #TheoryofChange #CommunityAction #SystemsChange #HousingJustice #LandJustice #RacialJustice" https://lnkd.in/eKaEj6tV

Medicare Health insurance broker for Missouri, Kansas and Ohio. Author of The Book Qadree El-Amin A Man. Behind the scenes manager mogul of the stars dangerous and glamorous life from Newark New Jersey.
Hi Morgan No we are not Proud of Mayor Lucas. Repealing NEW ORDINANCE TO CODE BOOKS ORDINANCE NO. 230401 Amending Chapter 3, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Section 3-431, “Setting Goals for Individual Contracts” and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter regulating the application of numeric MBE/WBE goals on certain projects leased for development or receiving economic development incentives or tax abatement. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 2. Ignoring the letter from The Kcmo Fairness Board Chairman & Fairness Committee regarding Civil Rights violations ? Harrasment of minority contractors ? inadequate reporting from Kcmo CREO department ? No Disparity report for 9 years and more ? 2016 Disparity Report below: Department of I think 1.2 minority [participation] and 2.5 WBE [participation], when there was adequate availability of minority and women contractors to meet the City’s standard kind of goal of 15 [percent] and 7 [percent]. They’re diluting the opportunity for minority and women contractors when it comes through the statutory business development organizations, all of whom have different sets of rules..… There ought to be a uniform code that is incorporated in all the development agreements which people in our community never see.… There’s a disconnect. And I realize they’re trying to change some of that now but the insulting part of it was there was more money spent through statutory agencies last year for contracting activities than there were through City departments.… It’s obviously developer driven. By the time we see it the development agreement has already been executed. Caused lack of capital for Jackson County schools and libraries. Mayor Lucas and Insult to African Americans everywhere?
Grateful to Quinton Lucas for the opportunity to serve my community and for the strong trust we’ve placed in each other since day one. We’ve accomplished a lot the past five years, and I hope we’ve made Kansas City proud. Under the mayor’s leadership, I know our City government will remain bold, caring and creative. How special it’s been to be part of it all. Reid Day, you’re up next! We’re all rooting for you.

High Stakes Leadership- Keynote Speaker, Workshops & Consultant✦ Corporate Culture✦ Diversity/Equity/Belonging✦ Community Advocate✦ Public Safety & Law Enforcement Leader✦ Expert Testimony✦
Have you ever wondered how one person's courage can transform a community? 🚔 In 1993, as a brand new police officer, I was assigned to the most violent district in our city. Residents lived in fear, children couldn't play outside, and crime was rampant. The situation was dire with businesses suffering and residents feeling trapped by their circumstances. 🌻 Determined to make a difference, I encouraged some residents to start a neighborhood watch, motivated landlords to repair their properties, plant flowers, and install basketball courts, and persuaded businesses to sponsor community cookouts to foster a sense of unity. "Bertha," a mother of 15 children, courageously accepted my offer to become a neighborhood watch leader, despite the death threats from local drug dealers and violent felons. Within a few months, the area transformed into a safe place to live, play, and visit due to the valuable partnerships established and good residents calling the police to report criminal activity. 😊 Fast forward to 2024, I learned Bertha had been diagnosed with dementia and had been asking her family to find me. When we were reunited, Bertha reminisced about the "action" in her former neighborhood, continuing conversation as if no time had passed. 💥 Three lessons we can all learn from this experience: Leadership Through Courage: Just as Bertha stepped up to lead the neighborhood watch, taking initiative and showing courage in the workplace can drive significant change. Both individuals and organizations can inspire teams and lead to impactful results by fostering a culture of bravery. Power of Collaboration: The transformation of the neighborhood was a collective effort. In a corporate setting, encouraging collaboration among team members and departments can lead to innovative solutions and improved outcomes. Associations can also benefit from fostering a cooperative environment. Creating Lasting Impact: The positive changes in the neighborhood had a lasting effect on the community. Similarly, the efforts we put into our work and professional relationships can create enduring benefits. By investing in people and projects, organizations and associations can build long-term value and leave a lasting legacy. Fostering a safe and collaborative environment is crucial for both personal and professional growth. Let's be inspired by Bertha's story to create positive change in our own communities and workplaces. #safety #leadership #impact
