I know a fair few people who work in the tech sector. I'd love to get an idea of how many people they work with who come from a lower socio-economic background. I'd love to know if anyone even cares, or thinks it's important. What does the world demand of us in this moment as social impact consultants? Jeff Bradach has answers. As co-founder of The Bridgespan Group, Jeff leads its strategy for accelerating the social impact of foundations, philanthropists and nonprofit organizations. As societal change agents for hire, consultants are brought in to support clients in thinking expansively about an issue, contemplate how to best improve conditions for the people that they care about, and develop right sized solutions by pushing institutions and the systems that they operate in. Needless to say, it takes a diverse set of lived experiences to do this with effective, efficient, and compelling results. Embracing racial equity just makes good business sense. Demographic shift is not in the future.  2030 is now. In this conversation on The R.A.C.E. To dive into the data that just came out of HerMoney’s 2023 State of Women survey, the HerMoney Podcast team recently traveled to The Inc. 5,000 conference in San Antonio, Texas, to speak with members of the executive team at Principal Financial Group and a live audience of female entrepreneurs. It’s all going down on this HerMoney Podcast, and it’s a conversation you absolutely don’t want to miss, because we dive into all the data — the good, the bad, and the misconceptions! For example, our survey found that 90% of employees at small and midsized businesses — an overwhelming majority — said that they want a robust benefits package, yet just 63% of small and midsized business owners said it was important to their employees… In other words, we have a serious disconnect between what employees want most and what employers are offering. We dive into why, what we can do about it, and how we can bridge those disheartening financial confidence gaps between men and women at the same time we’re getting more people engaged with their money. I usually record the episodes you hear on #impact Podcast many months in advance. I love planning content for you, curating stories, and building them on each other. I’m always inspired by the new perspectives each guest brings to the channel. This conversation was no different. I already felt the power of this episode while recording it and I wish I could have shared it with you there and then. Erika’s story  is full of wisdom, courage, and strength.  Erika L. Watson is the Founder & CEO of the Intersection Collective (https://lnkd.in/dVgvh4D2), a platform to advocate and empower at the intersection of race and disability. Her impressive resume includes serving on the Equitable Nutrition in Schools Advisory Council to First Lady Michelle Obama and contributing to the historic Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act of 2010. She also founded Dress for Success in Washington, D.C., a nonprofit that has empowered over 30,000 women, many of whom are disabled, BIPOC, formerly incarcerated, and possess intersecting identities, to build skills and secure meaningful career opportunities. We talk about her work, how she carved out this career for her, how she started building the Intersection Collective.  We talk about what it means to truly serve a community, we talk about human rights and the lack of justice. And we talk about that oxygen mask, that for so many people working in the social impact space is so tricky to put on themselves first. “I committed to myself for myself. I think that's an important distinction. I committed to myself for myself that I wanted to be a better, healthier version of me for me. Not so I could be a better mom, caregiver, CEO, or leader of a team (...) I want to be a better, healthier version of me because I like me better when I'm happy. I like me better when my cup is full, when my heart is full.” Serving from a place of abundance, not lack. It made me pause, when Erika shared her view on taking care of oneself and which triggers to look out for when things start to feel out of alignment. I met Erika in a virtual classroom at our coaching academy. When she started sharing about her work with the Intersection Collective, I knew I wanted you to hear her voice too. I love my conversation with Erika for many reasons. I love her approach to making a difference, I am inspired by the way she sets boundaries, I appreciate her openness about struggles, and the dedication she brings to serving her community.
