🌾 The IPCC named India “the most vulnerable nation in terms of crop production” across all of Asia." To enhance climate resilience among farming communities, India urgently needs more adaptation finance—interventions that strengthen livelihoods and boost incomes. Today, at The/Nudge Institute's Charcha in Delhi, we launched Bridgespan's new research—supported by HSBC India—around building prosperity and resilience for more than 100 million farmers in the country. The report lays out six prime opportunities—"bold bets”—that can guide philanthropies and impact-first investors in making strategic investments that will enable India's farmers to adapt their livelihoods to climate change and boost their income. 💸 If fully leveraged, these investments could unlock Rs 3.49 lakh crore (nearly $45 billion) in adaptation finance. In the rapidly evolving landscape of #AI, #nonprofits can feel both on cusp of a technological revolution and unsure how to proceed. According to Jake Porway, co-founder of DataKind and Bridgespan’s AI fellow, AI doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. In fact, Porway says, AI is simply the next step in a long line of computing trends with which we’re already familiar (see the chart). But before an organization dives into the possibilities for AI, Nabiha Syed, the executive director of Mozilla Foundation, advises that organizations ground their discussions in some guiding principles. 1. Do No Harm - Bias The potential for AI tools to do great good is balanced by the potential for great harm if they aren’t implemented thoughtfully and inclusively. 2. Do No Harm - Inclusiveness Syed also noted that organizations need to be aware of issues around inclusiveness if they start implementing AI tools. In a world where the digital divide still exists, “you really shouldn't be building tech about people without them [involved].” 3.
