👥Behind the scenes of UA Mental Help: How did we overcome challenges in 2023 📉In 2023, we faced a significant obstacle: the lengthy processing of beneficiary requests for therapy continuation and an imbalance in human resources. The key challenge was improving the quality and speed of processing while enhancing therapy effectiveness and reallocating human resources. 💡Our solution involved the partial automation of client case processing. This innovation allowed our administrative staff to shift their focus towards providing qualitative assessment and support directly to the beneficiaries. 🌟The results were truly remarkable. We achieved faster and higher-quality support, which significantly increased beneficiary satisfaction. This success is a testament to our team's dedication and hard work. Older adults will soon outnumber children and youth and most of us, as we live and age throughout life, will access health, behavioral health, and/or social services. One of the critical aspects of BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month is highlighting the disparities in mental health care access and treatment. BIPOC communities are more likely to experience socioeconomic disadvantages, discrimination, and trauma, all of which can contribute to higher rates of mental health issues. However, these communities often face challenges in accessing appropriate mental health services due to factors such as a lack of culturally sensitive providers, language barriers, and financial constraints. The Mental Health Commission of NSW funded BEING - Mental Health Consumers to develop a network for people with a personal lived experience of mental health issues in NSW. The BEING Lived Experience Network, BEING CONNECTED, is an online network of people with lived experience who want to participate in activities such as co-design groups, consultations, committees and working groups, or who would like to publicly share their story.   BEING’s new Lived Experience Network is a significant step towards embedding lived experience perspectives across the mental health system in NSW, aligning with the Commission's priorities outlined in Living Well in Focus 2020-2024. If you or your organization are creating messages and communications to raise awareness and encourage use of 988, you need to read our new research at https://lnkd.in/ebt2gcGn. In my biased opinion, this research is so important because it provides evidence for the message themes, service attributes, even the specific words that were most motivational or hindrances to our study cohorts -- groups at higher risk for or disproportionately impacted by suicide. It helps us understand the way they think about their own mental health, suicide and crisis, 988, and who they consider to be trusted messengers. Backed up by data (n=5,451). This is just a start. We need others to build on this work. That means tailoring and testing messages with your specific audiences (many may already be doing this) and sharing what works with other communicators in this space. I wanna hear about it. It has been a privilege to direct this project on behalf of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, and we'll have more findings among trusted messengers coming next year. Compass Health is a community-based healthcare agency that integrates behavioral health and medical care services to support people in need. It aims to make mental health accessible and it approaches individuals from a whole person health perspective. It connects people with housing, an array of mental health services, chldren's services, community education, crisis prevention, and a loong list of other resources and services. This program is an example of a comprehensive, whole person approach to healthcare that can revolutionize the way mental health is approached in our country.
