With so many people working in hospitality in #Cornwall, it's important that we recognise the struggles that can arise in the industry, especially as the season starts to ramp up. A survey of 1,000+ hospitality professionals showed that 8 out of 10 (84%) of respondents had experienced mental health issues within their career and 46% would not feel comfortable talking about their health concerns with their colleagues. Hospitality staff should be able to discuss the state of their mental health and gain support from their peers and employers. It's important that although mental health can't be seen, it is regularly discussed; speaking up and sharing vulnerabilities should be the new definition of 'badge of honour'. That ratio is a lesson, if you find the chains using that format and look at online reviews. I will bet bad reviews , let’s check this out if you know of a place, that is using the format. I will do one better tell the guilty companies, switch to a QSR system !

After launching in May 2019, our friends at The Burnt Chef Project was setup with the sole intention of eradicating mental health stigma within hospitality.❤️ Margins are slim and with increased focus on saving money both employers and employees feel the effect of this on their mental health. Long antisocial hours, tough environmental conditions and pressures to perform are just some of the issues that hospitality professionals are fighting against on a daily basis. We recently conducted a survey of 1273 hospitality professionals which showed that 8 out of 10 (84%) of respondents had experienced mental health issues within their career and 46% would not feel comfortable talking about their health concerns with their colleagues. Hospitality staff should be able to discuss the state of their mental health and gain support from their peers and employers. It’s important that although mental health can’t be seen it is regularly discussed and policies reviewed. This should be the new definition of ‘badge of honour’. The nature of the industry, with long hours, fast-paced service, and continuous customer interaction, can take a toll on the mental well-being of workers. It is essential for employers to recognize the impact of these factors on their employees and take proactive steps to promote and prioritize mental health awareness. As hospitality professionals, we know that our industry can be demanding. Long hours, fast-paced environments, and the pressure to always deliver a positive customer experience can take a toll on our mental health. It’s important that we encourage each other in talking about mental health in the hospitality industry. Share our experiences, support each other, and learn how to better care for our mental well-being. Support, understanding and awareness around mental health has improved massively in the industry over the last few years but there is still a long way to go and opening up about it and sharing positive experiences can really help. In the meantime Check in with yourself regularly. Take a moment each day to reflect on how you're feeling. Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or burnt out? If so, it's important to reach out for help. Talk to your colleagues. It can be helpful to talk to other hospitality professionals who understand what you're going through. They may be able to offer advice or support, or simply listen to you without judgment. Seek professional help if needed. If you're struggling to cope with your mental health on your own, don't be afraid to seek professional help. A therapist can provide you with the tools and support you need to get back on track. Remember, you're not alone.
