A 2019 article in the Harvard Business Review made the case that LGBTQ+ inclusion is good for the economy. As more businesses make this connection, they are stepping forward to make an economic case for non-discrimination protections and against discriminatory laws. Fast forward to Andrea Frank, a Door County resident and recent Canary Fund grant recipient who helped to develop a project in helping businesses show their support for and welcoming the LGBTQ+ community. The Pride Flag Initiative (from Open Door Pride) is designed to offer free pride flags to local businesses or organizations to fly outside of their business to show customers they are a supportive, welcoming, and inclusive place. The goal of our initiative is to have all businesses flying the flag and support the LGBTQIA+ community. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gpC6exH4 Do you have an idea for a project to make your community more welcoming? Our grant application window is open until July 31, 2024. Our application process is easy and could help support your idea with a seed grant between $1500-$5000. Check us out at www.thecanaryfund.org.

It's World Pride Month....and sorry adding a rainbow to your product is not Allyship - it's marketing. While it's wonderful to see rainbows everywhere, it's important to remember that true allyship goes beyond adding a rainbow to your product or website. Allyship means: ❤️ Listening and Learning: Taking the time to understand the experiences and challenges of the LGBTQ+ community. 💜 Supporting and Empowering: Amplifying LGBTQ+ voices, supporting LGBTQ+ businesses, and advocating for equal rights. 💙 Creating Inclusive Environments: Ensuring your workplace and products are genuinely inclusive and safe for everyone, not just during Pride Month but all year round. 💛 Taking Action: Donating to LGBTQ+ causes, participating in events, and pushing for policies that support the community. Adding a rainbow to your product can be a symbol of support, but without meaningful action, it risks being seen as just another marketing tactic. Let's make this World Pride Month not just about visible support, but about real, impactful allyship. Together, we can make a difference. #worlpridemonth #LGBTQplusallyship #inclusiveworkplace #realsupport

As we wrap up Pride Month on July 1st, it's important to remember that Pride is not confined to a single month—it's a year-round celebration of diversity, acceptance, and love. 🌈 Pride Month may end, but our commitment to creating inclusive spaces and supporting the LGBTQ+ community continues daily. Inclusion isn't a trend; it's a fundamental value that shapes our workplaces, communities, and lives. Let's carry the spirit of Pride with us throughout the year by: 1. Advocating for Inclusive Policies: Ensure that our workplaces are safe and welcoming for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. 2. Educating Ourselves and Others: Continue learning about the experiences and challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Knowledge fosters understanding and empathy. 3. Supporting LGBTQ+ Initiatives: Whether through volunteering, donating, or participating in events, let's actively support organisations that uplift and empower the LGBTQ+ community. 4. Being Allies: Stand up against discrimination and be a voice for equality. Small actions can lead to significant changes. Pride is a celebration of how far we've come and a reminder of the work still ahead. Together, we can build a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. #PrideEveryDay #InclusionMatters #LoveIsLove #YearRoundPride #LGBTQAlly

In the quest for equality and support, one stark reality often overlooked is the disproportionate underfunding of LGBTQ organizations. At The Trevor Project, we are acutely aware of this challenge, which a recent insightful article by my fabulous colleague, Tina M. Barber, MPA, in Philanthropy News Digest brilliantly brings to light. https://lnkd.in/gbsfHKaD This insightful piece sheds light on the challenges faced by organizations like ours and underscores the urgency for equitable funding. It's not just about maintaining operations – it's about expanding our reach to ensure that every LGBTQ+ young person who needs support can access it. I see every day how vital these services are and how much more we could achieve with increased support. As we continue our mission to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services, I invite our partners and the broader community to join us in this endeavor. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ youth. #LGBTQSupport #Philanthropy #TheTrevorProject #InclusiveFunding

In 2010, a powerful global movement was sparked when LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies spoke three words that would echo hope and resilience — "it gets better." This simple yet profound message ignited a wildly successful social media campaign, with over 70,000 individuals sharing their stories to offer solace and encouragement to young members of the LGBTQ+ community. Today, It Gets Better stands as a prominent global non-profit organization, touching the lives of millions of young people annually. Through an array of inspiring media initiatives, educational resources, and a network of international affiliates spanning 19 countries, It Gets Better provides vital support and access to community-based services. https://lnkd.in/gbA9BEfe #abbysoulproductions #resources #itgetsbetter #againsthomophobia
