It was our honor to provide lunch from our Dowlings Restaurant to the brave firefighters of our local New York City Fire Department Engine 44 as a gift of thanks on the anniversary of September 11th. We are extremely grateful for the protection they bring our community and their service to our city.

ex Owner, Manager of the UK’s longest running (same-owner) nightclub 1972 to 2020. Championing Hospitality and the Night-Time economy
It is far more than saving a few key Pubs, it's our whole hospitality and especially late-night venues are, to put it politely, in the doldrums. The hospitality sector is worth Billions to the UK economy, its supply chain literally affects every business sector, if this were any other sector there would be government intervention, national programs... We need to ask why Birmingham has the highest net decline of licenced venues at -17.1% (March 2023 v 2020) than anywhere else in England, only Aberdeen fared worse in the whole UK at -18.9% One of THE biggest problems is not just safety but the perception of safety, to have reliable late-night transportation, that's safe & affordable and the ability to be Dropped-Off and Picked-Up near all venues Hospitality, our Nighttime economy is a very public-led industry, which means the public need to know what's being done. Don't keep people in the dark about what's being done to #SaveNightlife
It’s time to ‘List your Local’ 🍻 We’re working with CAMRA to protect our West Midlands’ pubs. Our Night Time Advisor, chef Alex Claridge, joined the Mayor, Andy Street, to launch the campaign today. They hosted a roundtable to understand the plight of our pubs. And what can be done to safeguard many of our bostin’ boozers. That’s where you come in! Tell us about your local via our online form: https://lnkd.in/eZ42GeU8 And help us raise a glass to support these key parts of our communities 🤝

As a summer camp director, one of the mottos I'd try to instill in my staff was "See the need, meet the need" and at that time "the need" was a water cooler needing to be refilled or an extra set of hands in the kitchen. Reflecting on the work we've done at SWIM over the last year, I've realized that we're helping organizations addressing food insecurity use the "see the need, meet the need" philosophy in many ways ➡Using their data to better understand what their neighbors want and need, so they can "see" the need better. ➡Planning goals and strategies about what they learned from their data so they can meet the need. ➡Leveraging their influence to set the table for innovation and collaboration to assist others in meeting the need. Christmas dinner? Hmmmmm. Stuffing, steaming gravy, Yorkshire pudding, a golden turkey, Christmas crackers, chocolate. All the must-haves on the dining table to celebrate Christmas with family. Except not all families can afford these luxuries. Thousands of people struggle to put food on the table, and it’s acutely aware at Christmas time. It leads to anxiety, worry, shame and embarrassment. That’s where the Hamper Appeal comes in. Over the past six years, the Christmas Hamper Appeal has delivered a staggering 1,200 hampers to families in Bournemouth. In the previous year alone, a remarkable partnership of 85 organisations provided three days' worth of nourishment and seasonal delights to 721 individuals. These hampers have served as a lifeline, enabling families to create cherished moments together that would have otherwise been impossible due to the financial strain of putting food on the table. The impact goes beyond a simple meal; it extends to the joy of inviting loved ones to join the festivities, all made possible through the invaluable support of others. I’ve been volunteering for the Hamper Appeal for the past five years and have seen first-hand the hard work that goes into the operation and the delight on their faces when delivering the hampers. I’m delighted to become a trustee of the newly-formed charity and look forward to supporting its growth. We already have a second location and we have ambitious plans to expand into further areas of the UK. As with all charities, we are desperate for help and support. Whether sponsorship, fundraising, donations or hands-on-deck volunteers during the busy time leading up to the deliveries, please get in touch if you can help. The video below shows some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes on to deliver these hampers and bring smiles to hundreds of struggling families. If you, or your company, can donate, buy a hamper, support or volunteer, please use the link to find out more. https://hamperappeal.org https://lnkd.in/eEvpHSew With thanks to Richard King for the video!

How do effective cross-sector partnerships leverage the collective intelligence, creativity and resilience of local stakeholders working for a common cause? We need a bold, radical, preventive approach with a focus on #community, connectedness and what we can do for each other. Our Healthy Communities Together (HCT) partnership in #Coventry, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and alongside learning partner The King's Fund, is bringing the whole system together to address #HealthInequalities. This new video, filmed over the summer, provides a snapshot of some of this work - initially happening in the Willenhall neighbourhood with a plan to expand the most effective practice to other parts of the city grappling with persistent health inequalities. "If you're fed up with business as usual, if you're fed up with crisis after crisis and having to deal with emergency, then make some space to come and talk to healthy communities in Coventry about how we can get upstream, how we can tackle the real causes of those emergencies. "That is about community, it's about connectedness, it's about what we can do for each other," says Grapevine CEO Clare Wightman. Meet Clare and other members of the HCT partnership in the film: 👩⚕️ Local GP Sarah Raistrick 🏥 Public health consultant Valerie 📋 Programme manager Debbie 🔥 Community organiser Edwin 🤝 Community worker Andrea, and critical to the partnership's impact; ❗ Active Willenhall residents, Matt and Dorothy. More about Willenhall, the four other test sites and how this national programme is exploring the ability of #collaborative partnerships to overcome their challenges and tackle complex health problems here: https://bit.ly/49gtwtk Thanks to The King's Fund for our film 🙏 #ShiftingPower #SystemsChange Our community of cross-sector HCT stakeholders is made up of Grapevine, Coventry City Council, NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board and Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.

Project Management | Cross-Cultural Communication | Conflict Management Through Mediation | International Ballerina to Business: Building Bridges Across Cultures
It's an honor and privilege to serve Restorative Farms (RF), an incredible non-profit, located in the heart of South Dallas, Texas. RF is dedicated to transforming lives in a community facing significant challenges, including being designated the most impoverished in the state. Their core mission revolves around building a sustainable, economically strong, and well-managed urban farm serving as the foundation for a thriving community "agrisystem" within Dallas. This replicable model aims to address food deserts by providing residents with access to fresh, ethically sourced food. But RF goes beyond just food. They offer professional training and employment opportunities, empowering individuals, including those formerly incarcerated, to achieve financial stability and contribute to community development. The founders, Brad Boa, Tyrone Day, Doric Earle, and Owen Lynch, envision RF as a collaborative effort with the community to tackle three critical issues: - Providing healthy, affordable produce: Ensuring individuals living in food deserts have access to affordable, fresh, medical-grade food. - Boosting the local economy: Creating income opportunities for community members through farm production and sales. - Empowering the community: Equipping individuals with training, work experience, and leadership skills to break the cycle of poverty and resource depletion. RF is more than just a farm; it's a systems-based solution. They're committed to building a self-sustaining, climate-conscious, and profitable network of farms and people, all working towards a shared mission of community upliftment. Learn more about their inspiring work in this documentary: https://lnkd.in/gCvk3Sc2 #RestorativeFarms #CommunityEmpowerment #SustainableAgriculture #FoodJustice If RF’s mission resonates with you, I encourage you to share this post and support RF's impactful work!
