NEW on the CEP Blog: Eric Li, Luc Athayde-Rizzaro, and Bess Rothenberg share how the Ford Foundation has taken steps to collect grantee demographic data beyond the U.S., adapting to local contexts - and what they have learned about the challenges of demographic data collection internationally in the process. 📊 Sharing new findings from our partners at Candid. They've just released The State of Diversity in the U.S. Nonprofit Sector #report, providing comprehensive data on U.S. nonprofits. Some valuable insights into the demographics of nonprofit workers include: 🔎 Organizations with expenses of $50,000 or less have the highest proportion of CEOs of color, transgender CEOs and CEOs who identify as having a disability. 🔎 Women of color lead 28% of nonprofits with revenues of less than $50,000 while 40% of nonprofit organizations with revenues more than $25M are led by white men. 🔎 Median revenue for majority white-led organizations is 54% higher than it is for the majority BIPOC-led ones. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gdrS-YGa To continue the conversation about the importance of data in shaping equitable philanthropic practices, I invite you to join Philanthropy Northwest and leaders from Candid and the The James Irvine Foundation on June 7. Don't miss this conversation on how demographic data can support more efficient and equity in our grantmaking practices. The call is open to everyone: https://lnkd.in/gxry4AsD

This last paragraph is a great summary: “While this is a call to women of color leaders, it’s also a call to our families, our friends, and our donors to recognize the gaps in funding, to acknowledge what it takes to do this work, and to support us in making our mental, physical, and emotional health a priority. We want to stick with this work for the long haul, but we need your support to make it happen.” How can you support women of color leaders in your community?
Opinion: Women leaders of color are exhausted writes Sayu Bhojwani. "From unfulfilled racial justice pledges to unionizing nonprofits, the pressures on us aren’t letting up. Donors need to recognize that and invest in our physical and mental health." Bhojwani founded New American Leaders and Women's Democracy Lab and is an Open Society Foundations Equality Fellow. https://bit.ly/49RdJ3o

Many nonprofits exist to improve the lives of women, children and other disadvantaged groups. For me, this is exactly why it's so important to have women at the table where decisions are being made. Similarly, having a board that includes at least some representation of the people the organization serves can be really powerful. At Athena, I work with nonprofits of varying sizes - rather than entering into a binary gender debate, I believe we need to focus on fostering collaboration and inclusivity to drive meaningful change. So how do we empower more women to ascend the career ladder to executive roles in larger nonprofits, while encouraging men to address the issues affecting their direct communities?

Check out this survey from the Building Movement Project. If you fit the description, please fill it out. If you have a network of folks to whom this applies, please share! "Since the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the use of affirmative action in higher education, its ripple effects have spread across various sectors. For example, diversity/equity (DEI) programs are being threatened and restricted in various arenas. Simultaneously, communities around the country are facing restrictions related to reproductive choices, LGBTQIA+ rights, and immigration, while freedom of speech by nonprofits on various issues including Palestinian human rights is being scrutinized. Additionally, some private funders have or are considering pulling back on resources. The survey is for organizational leaders, executive directors and program directors whose organizations have either experienced (or may experience) restrictions, threats, attacks, and challenges in the context of programs, activities, partnerships, and funding related to the current political climate. The results will help BMP generate valuable insights and recommendations for the nonprofit sector and funders. It takes 15 minutes and we would like to receive as many responses as possible. We hope you will also share the survey with your peers." https://lnkd.in/e3i2sJHt

We still have much more work beyond March, like with July for Black Women, August for Moms, October for Latina Women, November for Native Women…and that’s only naming a few! Was such an honor last week to engage in discussions and hear what we all must still do from Barbara Turner, Alicia Miller, Holly Hankinson, Sara Kahmann, CFRE - their inspiring journeys, community leadership, and philanthropic commitments. Proud of progress made and relentless advocacy from The Women's Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation , continuing to bring us together and empowering progress. Got to meet & learn from community champions & allies, and some of whom weren’t even allowed to open their own bank accounts to deposit their initial unequal paychecks on their own either. (Since 1974 was landmark with yet another Act to make it happen despite already law in 1960). How lucky am I that get to benefit from so much courage and wisdom from those before me? How lucky am I that Microsoft is committed to transparency breeding equity & inclusion? - sharing pay range data with JD’s & not asking about salary history. How lucky am I that I am empowered to continue our fight for a better for future, where all can participate, prosper, & reach their potential? Not to be underestimated, should be celebrated and pushed for more accountability; I have faith and fury that our elected officials & networks will work harder to catch up. (PS - Appreciate the nudge on this unique forum and also for your continued board commitment, Jyotsna Bernet! ) #PayTransparency #MSFTAdvocate #EqualPayDay #AdvancingEquity
Gratitude Alert! The Women's Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation gives a heartfelt shoutout to Barbara Turner and her incredible foundation, BT RISE for their generous sponsorship of our recent fundraiser held on March 14, in recognition of Equal Pay Day! Barbara's unwavering support for Equal Pay resonates deeply with our mission at The Women's Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation . Barbara, your dedication to our cause empowers us to continue our vital work, striving for equality and empowerment for women and girls. Thank you for being a beacon of hope and change in our community. We are truly grateful for your partnership! #EmpowerWomen #BTRise #ThankYouBarbara
